Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)

Attended a Year-2 talk recently.. Was informed that '3.6' is the magic number.. Most of the special programs (eg. RA) and Electives require a minimum of overall GPA 3.6 to qualify to apply.. So, encourage your boys to aim for 3.6...

especially so if it is a SAP sec sch.....
i was kinda like u :faint: when i first saw my gal's HCL's results when she was in yr1.....
But...if they are willing and with determination to work hard, improvement will comes naturally....dont fret.... -
That’s reassuring…
He have no problem with the other 5 subjects, in fact doing well, getting 3.6 or 4.0

HCL is always very demanding no matter which school one chooses. The comprehension is very chim. According to ds they hardly speak mandarin in school. Never say the Chinese pledge anymore and he is like forgetting it liao. That's reassuring.....

I would like to find out, for RI Y4 year-end GPA, is it true that the GPA is computed as such: 55% based on Y4 results and 45% on Y3? Does this mean all individual subject scores are recalculated for the 2 years and then the final, new GPA computed? Would appreciate if someone could confirm this.
Also, anyone knows roughly what the average final-year GPA is for Y3 and Y4 for the past few years?
Thanks in advance. -

My DS is in a similar situation as your DS.. Started off with 2.4, moved up to 2.8, peaked at 3.2, but back to 2.8 again in the recent MYCT.. And he stubbornly refuses to attend any tuition (since primary school days)... :roll:That's reassuring.....

Usually there’s only 1-2 sports classes. Many of the sportsmen don’t come from DSA sports, because many of the Sec school sports aren’t played extensively in Pri Schl.
DSA sports boys are allocated in 1a, 1b, and 1c right?
Heard from DS that this year they r only in 1A.
ya. some boys posted their class photos on the facebook. The sports class environment seems different from the gifted class environment.
why didn't the school spill them over each class rather than cluster is one class?
They try to give more attention, assign certain teachers to help them catch up. Not that they need it, but former teachers I know think that it isn't a shabby idea. -

The 'sportsmen' in RI need not be from the Sports classes only.. There are many from other classes who take up Sports CCAs and they represent the school in national competitions too.. Many in RI are 文武双全,you know...
Cannot be so few sportmen right? Only 30 students in 1A?
I think PSLE aggregate is also being considered right? May be aggregate lower than certain range will be posted in 1A. The rest who can achieve higher aggregate will be posted the rest of the class.
