There’s this series called The Way Things Work. There are a few CDs on heat, telecommunications etc. I don’t know if it follows the local science syllabus but it’s fantastic. Its based on a book with the same name by David McCauley you can buy at kinokuniya. This book is among my son’s top all- time favourite books.

I tried showing that book to my DD1 when she was in K1/K2 but I think she got put off by information overload. Maybe for slightly older kids or younger kids who are really passionate about such things? :?

Hi Schellen, I haven't read the book to be honest :). I bought it because I read reviews that said it was great for kids who like building or who are highly visual. Turned out to be true. I think it's a very boy book, if you know what I mean. My son even insisted on buying the newer version called The New Way Things Work. He says there are some updated chapters.

Btw, I did watch the DVDs- they cover more varied science topics than the book, I think. Maybe yr daughter will like that better?

*gasp* what do we do Blobbi ?! My son's top favourite book too. I sort of 'hate it' as it is bulky and I have it cart it around with him. Honestly, if we two share a home library we will save a lot of space and $ 😄

lol i used to watch Bill Nye the science guy on Kids Central many years ago.

There need to be more educational shows for kids on tv!

                        Hi mntcc,

Do they sell the DVDs anywhere? Thinking of investing in them.
