Sleeping Problem in teens
-
Any of your kids (mine sec3) have sleeping problem? Mine usually ask her to sleep at 10. and sometimes still drag till 11.30 then sleep. and she wakes up in the middle of the night at about 2/3am, and cant go back to sleep. Morning feel sleepy.
Today teacher call me say she doze off during class
I always ask her surrender her phone at 10. and leave her phone outside in the hall before going to sleep.
sometimes, she does sneakily takes her phone in the room. If to ask her to sleep early she will toss around in bed. And worse she is a light sleeper. If her sis snores she will wakes up, or sometimes when i open the bedroom door, it will also wakes her up.
Or is there anything to take before sleep so can sleep better? or when she wakes up before school?
i was wondering does brands essence of chicken helps. maybe can give her drink in the morning before going to school. -
My one twin too but in p5, also. I don’t allow much screen time, but born to dislike sleep I guess. So I m following.

Hi, most of our kids will continue this sleeping pattern even during their undergrad period. They are busy with both their academic commitment and social entertainment.

Try looking thru your windows, in the wee hours, at neighboring blocks and you will realize how many families are still awake.
Make sure our kids eat healthily and be happy always -

Is she physically tired by bedtime? Maybe some exercise in the late afternoon might help.

Does she have a bedtime routine? We set this up for young kids, but it also works for teens and adults. Some unwinding time before bedtime, maybe some reading or something. 10pm is quite early actually, and she is probably just not sleepy then, and aiming for 10.30pm might make it easier for her to fall asleep.
If she is a light sleeper, maybe ear plugs or white noise might help? -

Check if she has been drinking bubble tea or milk tea coffee etc in the day? I had that a few times and couldn’t sleep at all… can imagine our teenage kids getting addicted to all the sugar and caffeine.

SlumberWise is an independent website based around all things sleepy. Quotation;
\"Let’s start at the beginning. Sugar, be it white, brown, cane, beet, or even another sweetener like honey, is digested and turned into glucose in the bloodstream.
Glucose is indeed the energy molecule – and it’s available in an easily accessible form in sugar. But glucose does not correspond with long-term energy and wakefulness. Potato, rice, or bread is also converted to glucose in the blood – and there’s hardly a big concern that a baked potato will keep you up at night.
These starchy foods might even have an even more pronounced effect on blood glucose levels than sugar itself. There is no unique chemical properties of sugar that make it special with regards to wakefulness and sleep, compared to any other source of glucose.\"
I thought Sugar could be the cause too!

Hi HasnaN1977, with the new implementation on temporary closure of bars and entertainment venues, you can now take a break and get a good rest.
It can also be insomnia and the most common cause is stress..

Probably caffeine? Advise to get outdoors and exercise, get ample sunlight early in the day. Say before 2pm… after 3pm, no white light and electronics. See if it works?

No electronics after 3pm? I don't think that will work for teens! 1 hour before bedtime will be a struggle already.

If no choice, can set screen to night light to filter the blue light. Use blue light filter on screen etc

It's so true. Not many parents can achieve this too :nailbite: -
drink melatonin. drink chamomile tea, let lavender smell before bedtime. as for melatonin, be sure to consult a doctor.
-
I think this could be a habit, try to avoid long weekend lie-ins to programme your body to a pattern.
Encourage your teen to not sleep in for hours at weekends. Late nights and long lie-ins can disrupt your body clock and leave you with weekend “jet lag” on school days. -
Agree w/ Alebertina Geller, make a good sleeping pattern and good habits before sleeping!

Hello!
Our DD has been a very good sleeper from about 5 months old, 8-7/7.30 but the past month she has been waking 3/4 times a night, sometimes a quick back rub will settle her but other times awake for an hour + and we resort to a bottle/ calpol/ rocking asleep, in her cot in her own room since 5 months, no changes to her routine, don’t understand what’s changed or why it’s happening, has anyone experienced the same? Advise appreciated -
Have you tried seeing an ENT specialist? Some sleeping problems may be caused by issues in the sinuses, tonsils or adenoids. If sleeping problems persist, you should definitely consider seeing a doctor. If you’re near Mount E, you can try our family doctor Dr Lau Chee Chong. He’s great with kids. Best of luck to you!
