In worst case scenario, there is still a Marymount Convent. It is a 超级后补。 🙂

I think the experience will be a bit different between schools. DD e-interview beginning July had 2 teachers inside room (but staying far behind) and another that is in charge of equipment setup inside also. No idea why they remain inside throughout the session but I believe DD e-interview is one of the earliest thus maybe they are just there to observe so that future setup will be smooth.
Thanks for sharing choowt. Your DD’s school is really professional to ensure 2 teachers are on standby and also 1 technical support staff. At least if face with technical glitches, the kids will not panic because they know teachers are around to help them. 🙂

• RE: secondary school English Tuition

Hi, I am trying to find out for my Sec 1 nephew. My SIL is quite concerned of his poor results despite already having tuition at a relatively popular tuition place specialising in writing.

We are surprised that the tuition centre gets a primary school teacher (who is currently teaching lower primary at a neighbourhood school) to teach secondary school level, Sec 1 and 2 classes. If not for the circuit breaker online lessons, we would have been kept in the dark.

Do you have any recommendation for small group tuition, with qualified tutors well-versed in Secondary school syllabus?
In fact, early notification of CO is good. If this is the 1st choice school, then the child does not need to waste time going other schools for audition/ interviews (if they are scheduled at a later date).

After discussing with my child, we decide to cancel the upcoming interview so as not to waste time and resources for everyone.

Congrats, but what if they changed their mind? Afterall, it is a verbal confirmation, nothing in black and white yet.
Totally agree, better to get an official black and white first. At least, an email confirmation of the CO from the school. 🙂

Very Sad that your DS is not shortlisted. Hope he can sail into same school or even better school through PSLE score easily. This DSA is very special: every top school received overwhelming applications.
For Maths, If they pick NMOS Gold, or other gold medalists in other olympiads, they would easily get 50 applicants + GEPers, I guess have special privilege as well. Singapore education is so competitive and many talented and hardworking kids around!!! Now very concerned, how tough this PSLE would be, with kids getting lot of time to revise + work from home parents coaching kids!!!
Corrections to make! 🙂 As a WFH mum, I can honestly tell you there is literally no time in coaching my kids. It is a wrong perception that WFH means parents having extra time in teaching their children. Most of us are overwhelmed with conference calls and meetings.

Hi.
Appreciate it if someone here can share with me how the schools shortlist the students for DSA interview, in the event that the number of applicants is overwhelming.

My boy was not selected in one of the schools for Math domain despite being first in class every year since P1, academic results above 90 marks for almost all subjects (Math confirm have) and his many achievements includes the following:
- NMOS 2019 (silver)
- Annual Mathlympics 2019 (silver)
- Singapore Mathematical Olympiad 2019 (participant)
- Annual Mathlympics 2018 (bronze)
- Student Council Exco Team Senior Vice President 2020
- Student Council Exco Team Vice President 2019
- Edusave Character Award 2019
- Edusave Scholarship 2019
- EAGLES 2019

Btw, he is from a ‘very’ neighborhood school.

Can someone share? Thank you.
Perhaps, that school he applied to has too many applicants with gold in Math Olympiad. It does not mean he is not good. The other awards are not relevant to the domain he applied to, although they are really impressive. This was what I read in DSA2019/ 2018 thread shared by other parents. If he had chosen leadership domain, maybe the chances in getting selected would have been much higher.

Actually this is not quite true. Most of the secondary schools just set a date and time and ask us to arrange with our primary school ourselves. I heard some others in our primary school has had the primary school reject some dates where facilities are full before and they would then email the secondary schools in question with available dates and times.

However, the secondary school would still send out the shortlist letter first... With suggested date and time. Arrangements can be settled later on.

Secondary school would need us to reply with confirmation that this is all set for which date time also. For us, this is what happened. I know a few schools like mgs and nush arrange direct with primary school and have primary school issue the shortlist letter instead but most send the shortlist email first to applicant.
I see and thanks for sharing. I think different secondary schools handled differently. Some schools checked with the primary schools first before sending the email/ letter whereas others expect us to arrange on our own.

When I received the interview notifications, I wasn’t sure if DD’s primary school was aware so I dropped a note to the form teachers. Received a reply from teacher-in-charge who told me she is aware as the dates and time were confirmed by her to the secondary schools.

It is therefore important for parents to notify the form teachers just in case they are not aware of the interviews.

But can this also imply that they put the students on lower priority since unable to even shortlist them earlier? Still waiting for more results..but almost giving up already..sigh
No lah, the delay is most likely due to Primary school side, waiting for teacher-in-charge to confirm available date and time for the audition/ interview.

Perhaps can give the secondary school a buzz, they should be in good mood to entertain parents because today is Fri and also last day of school. 🙂

My cousin is thinking of trying PCPS or IJ TP too. From my understanding, PCPS reduced its intake from 360 to only 300 so the competition is more intense now. I will choose IJ TP for its affiliation.
