    • RE: Subject Combination in JC

Each H2 subject is worth 17-20 points if you get an A. You need 85 points to get into Law and 75 for Accountancy although it might depend on the intake year. Some students get 7 A’s, but cannot get into Law. You might find it shocking, but govt does not want more graduates, and are happy if they go overseas to study and not come back. As you can be easily replaced by a foreigner. Don’t believe its ok, but don’t forget this bitter pill.

    • RE: Do I need to revise O-lvl stuff before JC starts?

Ya, if you plan on doing organic chem, then revise a little la. Revision is always good if you think you’ve forgotten the concepts or need to refresh the topic. Don’t expect teachers to hand-hold you in JC or to refresh your memory and start at O Level, although not to say that teachers don’t do it - they might do it for the lower ranked classes.

    • RE: All About Market Rates of Private Tutors

      Pri 20-30 per hour

      Sec 35-45 per hour
      JC 50-70 per hour

all above rates depending on experience of teacher and location. Anything more is a rip-off ! (Of course some tutor charge less).

BTW, lawyers charge $150 per hour for professional legal advice. If you are paying a tutor more than that, might as well hire a lawyer. At least you can proudly say, my son’s tutor is a lawyer!

    • RE: School Teachers Working as Tutors

If teachers cannot teach in school, they should not be allowed to tutor!

    • RE: * Temasek JC (TJC)

Science stream teaching and faculty in most JC’s is pretty much the same. And MANY students who have done well in O Levels, continue to get tuition despite being in top or bottom ranked schools. Apply based on distance, then whittle it down to preference. TJC is OK la, but you might want to consider TPJC. Good faculty!

    • RE: UK Universities

Entry to overseas educational institutes is not difficult. Singapore does not want too many graduates, because where are they going to place them? There aren’t enough top level jobs. So if Singaporeans want to leave, go ahead - you can always be replaced by a cheap professional from overseas.

Don’t worry. As long as the Uni checks out, has the necessary credentials and a good alumni, just go to UK. Good luck!

    • UK Universities

As long as the uni is ranked and has a great alumni why should it matter if its conditional or unconditional acceptance? And why should it matter if the uni is doing good or bad?

Great results. but if you dont have A1 in HMT i doubt if you can get in. Try and appeal through leadership or sports. Good luck.
