Sembgal, lurline, may i know how do Nush compute gpa? what marks equiv to how many pts and how many subjects are taken into computing consideration?

Yes, NUSH do compute GPA.
A+ is 5.0
A is 5.0
A- is 4.5
B+ is 4.0
B is 3.5
B- is 3.0
C+ is 2.5
C is 2.0
D + is 1.5
D is 1.0
F is 0
Tks!

57dolphin :thankyou:

what is the range of marks for each equiv grade ? (eg ia A : 80-89, A+ : 90 above etc) and how many subjects are taken onto consideration for the computation?
Tks!
Hi,
I am sorry, I don't know the marks range for each grade.

For Graduation CAP, you can have CAP with or without MTL.
For Graduation CAP all subjects( those with point grading) taken from year 3 onwards will be included.

For those subjects taken in yr 1/2, point grades are recorded for record only.

CAP of 3.5 is definitely not impressive. CAP 3.0 - 3.9 is Merit.
See my earlier post, this year around 75% of the students pass with Distinction (4.0-4.4) and High Distinction (4.5 and above).
There are students with Graduation CAP of 5.0 with MTL. How many, I don't know.

Hope this infor is useful.
Hi sembgal,

Heard from the mentor that anything below 3.5 is consider no good. So 3.5 cannot be very good. The average in ds class is 4.1

Thanks for sharing.

Even though is year 1 at NUSH, I heard from the child's mum, who mentioned anything above 3.5 is considered very good.

Of course below 3.5 is no good. But every class average could be different.

Sembgal, lurline, may i know how do Nush compute gpa? what marks equiv to how many pts and how many subjects are taken into computing consideration?

Yes, NUSH do compute GPA.
A+ is 5.0
A is 5.0
A- is 4.5
B+ is 4.0
B is 3.5

C+ is 2.5
C is 2.0
D + is 1.5
D is 1.0
F is 0

Hi Puzzle.

those are three books in the book list during my DD foundation years. MT book is a must.

The biology book my DD refer and read all the recommended chapters. School provide printed ppt of modules. However not sure if it is still the practice for the new students.

For the others subjects, the school provide printed notes.

For the biology test, you may consider buying just the year 3 Campbell Biology. Campbell biology has all the chapters of the concept and connection. However take note the Campbell biology is a year 1 university text and maybe a tremendous jump for a primary student.

Regards

Puzz...zzle:
Hi, I think sec1 will get the book list when report on 23rd DEC. May I know do we need to buy all the books in the list? will they using in class or some not necessary ? Please advice.

Any source of 2nd hand books?
Hi,
The two MT book, if you are taking Chinese.
The other possible book is the Biology book, \" Biology Concept and Connection\" by Campbell, Reece, Taylor, ) which student will read a few chapter for Yr 1 & 2. In year 3, school will recommend another Biology book, \" Campbell Biology by Reece.

It is possible to download pdf copy of both books and their chapters ppt from the internet.

for the biology books, they come in international edition, cost probably about S$35.00 for each. the two MT books will probably cost S$10. (information from few years back), anyway the Popular book shop in the school sell them. Best buy the biology book from school as other Popular shops in town will probably not carry it.

For old books, sometime students dump them in the recycle box in the hostel.

Hope above is helpful to you

Thanks.

Can I say that unlike in some secondary schools or Poly that require students access material, submit homework online, prepare reports or slides, students at NUSH can go through the 6 years without having a personal laptop? Or does it vary by year or what you study?

It is definitely necessary to have a desktop PC at home to access material, submit homework online, prepare reports or slides. But bringing a laptop to school is optional. The school will supply laptop to use in school if it is required.

You do not need to bring a notebook to school everyday, but you will need it when you are doing your ARP, whether in school or in the research lab, if you are on some programmes like MPP,SMP MOE LSAP, MOE OSAP, Brain Camp, NUSH OSAP, NUSH school exchange programme, SSEF presentation and etc.

Hope this help.

Any parents know if students at NUSH use laptop a lot as learning tool? I heard school does not require student to have laptop becos there are computer labs. Will having a laptop help the kid or worse, become a distraction?

It is nice to have, but not necessary.
It adds to the weight to carry.
My son told me he does need to buy one.

DD just graduate, for her, smart phone is a must, she need to have it everyday, read and response to emails, communication within CCA, interest group and etc via whatapp.

Notebook for project and presentation works in school.

Desk top with large screen for school works at home.

Hope above helps.

In 2015 convocation, 175 graduated
92 with High Distinction
57 with Distinction
26 with Merit/Passed
Some have graduation CAP of 5.0 .

how many failed to graduate? šŸ˜„

Failed to graduate from NUS High, will also include some of those who seek Transfer out to other IP Secondary schools like RI, along the way, turn back to the normal GCE \"A\" level route, and then graduate with an A level cert, before proceed onward bound to continue university education, from there.
Hi,
I counted the number of students in the Class 2015 group photo ( in school uniform) and the names in the convocation book, its 175 students. Believed all of class 2015 have graduated.

NUSH max intake per cohort is 180 and understand most of the time less than 180 were admitted.

So far during my DD study in NUSH , heard of 1 drop out from her CCA group, the boy went to Uni of Western Australia instead of continue year 5 in NUSH. Another Chinese student when over to Hwa Chong.

Hope this help.
