if all had read the mbs newsletter brought home by the kids yesterday, you would know that there is only 1 best class each for p3 & p4 whereas there are 2 each in p5 & p6.

no need to be bothered too much by this actually since it all depends on our kids’ own performance, if they are good enough they will get in. it’s not easy to be in the best class honestly, the expectation/ pressure that the kids need to meet/ cope can be tremendous.

mmm - nice to see you here again! hope your trip was good. i would like that type of analysis which you prefer too. may be we can feedback to the school though it’s quite unlikely they would accede to our request. go visit taonan website, they reveal a little more as in the top score for each of their p6 classes.

lostbunny - i thought it is the norm for the form teacher to take eng & maths unless he/she is a chinese teacher.

so far, it is the case for my p2 boy. in fact, he only gets 3 teachers this year, one taking chinese, moral education and music, the 2nd taking art and the form teacher taking all the remaining subjects.

my p4 boy’s form teachers in p1 & p3 were also the case except p2 where his form teacher only taught him eng.

apart from the class size, the only difference is that the better classes will move on a faster pace. the teachers also have higher expectation of them.


anyway, it doesn’t really matter which CL class the kids go to. most importantly is they must have chemistry with their teachers and enjoy their lessons.

2818 - the kids are assigned to different CL classes based on their p1 overall CL results. not sure if CL1 is the weakest class though. usually better classes will have more kids and weaker classes less kids so that the latter can have more attention from the teachers.


don’t dismay, new teacher does not necessarily mean no good. no choice now cos we as parents also can’t do anything. just pray hard the teachers are okay. kids can adapt very fast so don’t worry.

chasingjelly - usually the lower primary top CL class has kids with 96 marks and above. but CL10 should also be considered a very good class. which class is your dd in?

i am glad my p2 got back his p1 form teacher as his form teacher this year.


best p2 CL class should be CL11 with 37 students in the class.

best p4 CL class should be CL10 if i didnt recall wrongly.

only thing is the classroom of both my p2 & p4 (they happened to share the same classroom) is located at the 3rd storey! poor boys (esp the p4, got to climb 3 storey daily with the heavy school bags)

anyway, a new academic year, a new year of fresh challenges.

anyone has any idea how kids from p3 are streamed to p4? i only know that (based on last year) for p2, it’s based on their maths & english results that they are streamed to p3. so the top 40 kids with the best eng & maths results will go to the best class, ie. 3h. my understanding was the remaining kids are scattered in 3a to 3g.


however, just get to know of kids from 3a going to 4b next year. so very curious as to how the streaming are actually done.

this year, heard that it is not indicated in the report books of the p2s which p3 class they are going to next year. strange.

think the school should keep us parents informed in this area.

Strictly by the description of the grades, it is pretty tough to get an A. To get a B is considered quite good. In fact, even a C is considered okay. Don’t get unduly worried over the grades.


Agreed with Baong, always check with the teachers when in doubt.

SY mum, thought usually the kids are asked to do twice and the better grades will be taken in for the SA marks? It is the case for the P1’s show & tell and poem recitation. Not so sure for P2. Again, check with the teacher.

i couldn’t agree more but i also keep reminding myself and my boy that ultimately it is the psle that we are all working towards…so nevermind about position in class now… the main thing here is to maintain his own standard in all the subjects…

it’s announced in the papers today that from next year onwards, school holiday for teachers’ day and children’s day will fall on the 1st friday of sep & oct, respectively, so that kids can have 2 long weekends to enjoy themselves and us parents to spend time with.
