:thankyou:
hi ABCDE,ABCDE:
Hi K parents and friends,
I'm a student in P6 this year. My parents didnot get entry to the open house which was held earlier as they(NJC) said all timing \"FULL\".
So, can any K.parent or friends enlighten me on what was highlighted during the speech. Would like to know on the Boarding fee and CCA we have to choose..Is it 1 or 2 ?.
I read first 6 pages here..n i'm finding exhausted to go thru till 206.So, can anyone give me an idea of NJC academic ,boarding and CCA details?
Thanks in advance.
here's a small nutshell.
Boarding fee - about $175 per term - one term/year from year 1 - 4
2 students to a room, bfast/dinner/laundry/supper.
School fees - standard govt rates, abt $20/month all in.
CCA - during year 1, there is no fixed CCA. there is something called CAFE, where you get to try out 3 or 4 different CCA without having to sign up \"permanently\". there are no uniform groups in NJC.
students are required to choose 1 \"niche\" CCA from year 2 onwards, and are also encouraged to take up a 2nd optional CCA.
Academic - please check this out - http://www.njc.edu.sg/integrated_curriculum.htm
class size is about 25. there are 3-4 girls to 1 boy
based on my DD year 1 experience, the first term is quite a honeymoon.
She woke up some time around mid-year, get the idea?
the good thing is, you'd probably be surrounded by really nice and fun buddies to study with after waking up.
there is no \"exam\" in year 1, but don't be \"cheated\" by that, there are plenty reasons around to make you study! -

No shortcuts, dear. Must read all pages
try this link http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/search.php?search_id=134198698&start=10, it narrows some NJC boarding to within 14 pages.
Anybody can give in a nutshell?? Can spare few mins 4 me??

Thanks to Vanilla cake for clarification.
Hi Friends,
Hi Vanilla Cakeatutor2001:
Lowest common multiple of 6 and 8 is 24.
24÷6=4
4+1=5
So, there are 5 angsana trees for the first 24m.
24÷8=3
3+1=4
So, there are 4 street-lamps for the first 24m.
From the above workings, you can see that there is 1 additional angsana tree for every 24m.
Since there are 12 more angsana trees than street-lamps (given in the question itself), length of the street -> 24÷1x12=288m
(a) If there is one street-lamp and one angsana tree on both ends of the street, length of street = 288m
288÷8=36
36+1=37 street-lamps.
Number of angsana trees -> 37+12=49.
(b) Numbers of street-lamps and angsana trees are 37 and 49 respectively.
Thank you for correcting my mistake. Got confused between trees and distances. Your method for finding the number of trees and lamps is so much better.
I have amended my working in red so as not to cause further confusion. Apology to anyone who got confused by me.
Please see my working in algebra. Hope u might feel it very easy :
Let Lamp be U
TRess = U + 12
(U - 1) X 8 m= (8U - 8 )m
(U + 11) X 6 m= ( 6U + 66)m
Given ,
8U - 8 = 6U + 66
8 U = 6U +74
a) 2U ---- 74
8U ---- 296
296m - 8 m = 288m (Street Length)
b) U ---- 37 (Lamp)
37 + 12 =49 (Trees) -

RE: Tutor MathsGuru: Ask me for your burning Maths questions!
Vanilla Cake:
In case u need the wrking :beauty queen:
Mr Samad made some toys to sell. He sold 20% of the toys on Monday. He sold 27 toys on Tuesday. On Wednesday he sold 10% of the remaining toys. After that he found out that the toys he had left was 1 more than 1/2 the number of toys he had made. How many toys did he make.
The number of toys made by Mr Samad was 115. But on working backwards, the number of toys sold on Wednesday is in decimals! Will leave this question for others to solve.
Thks.
Y x 80% = 0.8Y
(0.8y - 27) X 90% = 0.72Y - 24.3
0.72 Y - 24.3 = 0.5Y + 1
0.72Y = 0.5Y + 25.3
0.22Y ----- 25.3
Y = 115
They hvnot asked on WEdnesday.so, leave it.But as VC mentioned, it'll b in decimals. -

Thank u very much Uncle. This really gives me a satisfaction tht i am practising in the right way.Your words really gives me the boost i needed.Hi ABCDE
Thank you for sharing. It's always delightful to see new volunteers in this thread.
You are able to work with algebra manipulation comfortably .For a P6 student, it’s a commendable effort.
Just curious, where did you learn your problem solving technique from? Is it from school or external tuition?
Your answers are correct.
You should do well for PSLE Maths.
Best wishes
Algebra skill was first introduced by my mum. But i got interested in it after cing Dharma uncle solving most of the problems using Algebra .
I am weak in model interpretation, but became good in ALgebra. My school never taught problem solvings thru algebra.
Hence, 10 % credit goes to my mum and 90% to Dharma Uncle. Thank u Dharma Uncle.
After cing yr way of problem solving using Models i'm really amased.Developing interest in tht too. A big thank u to u too uncle.
PS:From P1 until now i had not gone to any tutions for any subjects.
THANK U TO ALL CONTRIBUTORS OF MATH GURU.
