Just attended LYPS’ 21st Anniversary Celebration (A Garden Party) last night. The atmosphere is vibrant and the students all look very smart. Saw some of DS1’s former teachers there - good, these teachers are the very solid and experienced ones. Hope DS2 can get them as well.

RE: Casuarina Primary
Thank you! Thank you!
Can't find DS1's PSLE cert and Report Book (just knew it was with him) Initially, the consideration is my parents' convenience in bringing DS2 to and fro school ...
Loyang is a hidden gem. I am quite pleased with how things turn out. -
RE: Casuarina Primary
Yesh! DS2 registered for LPS successfully.
It's been a one big round journey. As usual, I brought my son around to look-see and let him decide which school he wants to go to. Children usually have very good six-sense. My DS2 shortlisted Whitesands and Loyang. He refused to consider any other schools.
Very difficult decision for me as I feel equally good about the 2 schools. Furthermore, DS1, an alumni, had a very good experience in LPS. Also, LPS being in the morning session allows me to hothouse my son in the afternoon :))) However, I chose Whitesands because my parents need not cross major road junctions when bringing him to school. If they are too tired, there's also a 2-stops bus that need not cross any major road. Further, it's only a one-bus journey to and fro my house. DS2 stays in 2 places.
Both DS2 and myself felt torn btw WPS and LPS, and secretly I leave it to fate. And fate is good. WS got balloting, and I can switch to LPS ...yeah! -
RE: Going mad about Maths
Sorry, I kaypoh abit. If your child has Kumon, Tuition, Sch homework, plus problem sums given by the Father and Mother for just ONE particular subject … don’t you think you are overkilling?

RE: 2011 P1 Registration Exercise for 2012 In-Take
Hi Folks!
Pls advise what you would do if there’s only the following choices:
@ Geylang Methodist Pri - Phase 2A2
@ Loyang Primary School - Phase 2A2
- met the new principal, seems to be quite dynamic.
@ Whitesand Primary Sch - Phase 2C (1-2km using Parent’s add)
@ Elias Park Primary Sch - Phase 2C (1-2km using own add)
- which I am a little puzzled as our hse is only one road away behind the sch.
@ Poi Ching School - Phase 2CS ?? (2-3km using own add)
- i know it’s wishful thinking but bcos my DS2 is v strong in his chinese (his std is comparable to an average sec1 student)…
Many thanks in advance for any help and advice. -
RE: [Changi/Pasir Ris/Tampines/Simei] Preschools
Hi yeomaylin
Yes, I did tour the place but not the entire place. I think I missed the water play area as there was no scheduled water play session on that day.
Once I got a good feel of their program and teachers, and could also sense my son feeling very happy (first time he didn't cry but smile in an unfamiliar place), I make the decision in my heart on the spot
Cheers. -

RE: [Changi/Pasir Ris/Tampines/Simei] Preschools
yeomaylin:
Hi, my son is in K1 now. He joined PMCK pre-nursery mid-year when he was abt 2.5 yo.
Hi agentcodybank,
Is your boy in PMC Kindergarten K2 now? I was looking for a new kindergarten for my boy. He will be in K1 next year. How much do you pay for the fee and what is the session (timing) like? You may pm me if you want to.
My son has a slight problem too. He has slight difficulties in communication and answering. I am quite worry that teachers may loose patience on him.
Existing students have priority placing in the kindergarten classes. You may want to call them up at 65817728 or pay them a visit to talk to the Principal.
PMCK has 2 sessions: 8.15am-11.15am and 12.00pm - 3.00pm. They also have a good range of enrichment classes, which I find are value for money. This is because the classes are conducted in familiar environment before/after sch, I do not need to make extra trips and also the programmes are quite well-known, e.g. Helen O'Grady Speech & Drama.
Sorry off hand i can't remember how much is the term fee as I pay via CDA baby account. It must be reasonable because the fee is also one of my consideration when i signed him up then.
At that time, my son not only had problem communicating, his speech was not clear at all to the extend even I as his mother couldn't understand him! But if you hear him speak now, you would be very surprise, his diction is so clear that you can even hear the \" t \" and \" th \" clearly! His chinese is so powerful that he even reads to his elder brother! (Hope DS1 doesn't see this, he was actually quite angry that his younger brother teaches him chinese  )
My son's teachers are definitely patient and love children. He has been there for quite some time, so he has practically tried most of the teachers, and all of them are fantastic.
Hope that helps All the best ! -
RE: Are good schools really necessary for our kids?
Shocking! Which heartland school is that?
Is it a good one or a lousy one? Taonan is in a heartland; Poi Ching also in a heartland, AiTong also in a heartland? Actually i also heard of a branded pri sch students having mass fights, even after caning (dont know whether it is public caning or not, dont think parent want to tell).
If you can, by all means put your child in a good school (definition good=branded? or good also include neighbourhood schs?) If after PV, balloting and appeal still cannot, dont beat yourself up over it.
Psycholocgically it is better for a child to:
“pri sch go on to good (branded) sec sch” compare to “good (branded) pri sch go on to no-good sec sch”
Nevertheless, if your child is selected for gifted class, pls hor, chiong for it!
Having said that, some of my friends would disagree strongly with me on this. -
RE: Are good schools really necessary for our kids?
Personally I feel that good secondary schools is necessary for our children.
I intentionally put my son into a neighbourhood pri school, of course, occassionally I have my doubts. But I try to remind myself of my intention and the reason why I did so.
I came from an unknown pri sch in a poor neighbourhood. I learned to get along with many different kinds of friends, poor ones, very poor ones and even had a big “brother” from VITB class (I think it was called something like that, it was the predecessor of monolingual class) taking care of me. These experiences shaped my outlook in life and how I interact with different strata of society.
I went to a very very branded secondary school. It was a good balance for my development, and at the right time. I would not have benefited that much if the sequence had been reverse.
