Dear Tails
Congrats for the invite. Just wondering how did your daughter get into the RGS radar? Is there any connection from her pri school? Thx

RE: DSA 2021
Thanks for the advice. Not planning on the workshop, just wondering what kind of real value it brings.
Agree that natural responses are the best. For the statement & portfolio, anything to prepare specifically? Just list down the achievements or must have detailed write-up? -
RE: DSA 2021
Good morning parents. I came across an ad on DSA preparatory workshop. Indicated that among the agenda of workshop includes interview management and “review of e-portfolio and personal statement”
I always thought the list of achievements/portfolio are mainly from report book and just to add on anything else omitted? And how detailed is the personal statement supposed to be?
Sounds like a service to review cover letter and resume of job applicant 😬 -

Besides SMOPs, please check with your daughter's school if it is registering students for NUS High NMOS as there is a new P6 category this year. The period of registration is from 1 February 2021 to 15 March 2021. No individual registration will be allowed.
You may also want to check whether your daughter's school is registering students for RI RIPMWC 2021. RIPMWC was cancelled last year. I am not sure if it will be held this year.
All the best to your daughter!

Thanks for the suggestion. It appears there is no other competitions considered by school. SMOPs is first competition the school sent her (or any other of her batch to date). Perhaps school just not so focused on Olympiads before. With new principal, even my P3 girl was invited to compete in NMOS this year (but none of the P6)
My P6 girl did Sasmo and AMO last year as private and only managed Bronze for both. Doubt I shall register her in any other Olympiads this year under private cos her schedule is too HECTIC, to the point we had to quit her external art classes. -
RE: DSA 2021
Perhaps Becos Psle score is NOT confirmed that’s why the DSA query by Eureka? Don’t think there is really a lot of time to waste just to try for DSA, especially at this stage.
My daughter is in somewhat similar situation. She has very varied interests. We are still contemplating what DSA domain to apply but will leave to her to finalise. Maybe only looking at 1 school / 1 domain (or 2). If dont succeed, then fall back on psle score lah. There’s no harm at all, right? My girl is leaning towards arts or leadership. She also loves math so who knows, may consider it if she does well in upcoming SMOPs
Aside to Eureka, wish u all the best and do weigh daughter’s input greatly for the choice 😊 -
RE: DSA 2021
Hello parents. May I get some clarification on Community youth leadership domain, particular for RGS? What are the requirements and obligations for the child?
My first girl taking psle this year. She’s a Vice-head prefect and chairs the Art club. We should be trying for this domain if makes sense. Thanks in advance for any advice -
RE: DSA 2020 - NUSH
Thanks for all the inputs and advice.
We’ll just have to see. Got time to consider. She takes Malay which NYGH does not have, so would be difficult, although the judo would be very convenient. Understand Olympiad is a different animal, but core maths ok lah (past 3 yrs ave >95%). Will try first and decide later. Thanks again -
RE: DSA 2020 - NUSH
Thanks Tessdeomma. Normal psle route was the plan. But no harm just trying out for DSA right? I believe she won’t be down even if Dsa doesn’t go thru and won’t affect psle. I understand the maths commitment will not be as time-consuming as sports. We just see how lah 🙏🏽

RE: Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) [*IP]
Thank you. Direct PSLE seemed like the only choice when her sport (judo) was no longer in DSA. But seeing that commitment for Maths may not be too taxing, no harm just trying it out. She’s as competitive in sport as she is in academics, so we Just see how it goes 😊
