Hello. Anybody have any idea.. 🙏🏽
1) how many slots are there for DSA maths?
2) how many applicants roughly?
3) how large is the commitment required once accepted? (Training 1-2 per week / how many mandatory competitions?)

Much appreciated if have any experience on above. Thanks

1) about 20 +/-
2) 100-200? Not sure how things have changed but in the past math is the most competitive academic dsa domain. Platinum or gold in math Olympiad competition will definitely increase your chances. But heard most hv to sit for math test if being shortlisted these days.
3) commitment not v heavy. 1x training a week, about 2 hours (the girls are v busy, they don’t hv time for more trainings!) many girls can’t even make it to trainings from year 2 onwards as it clashes with the many other projects and activities in school (but can only be excused with valid reasons). 2-3 mandatory competition per year and required to attend some math related workshops.

May I know roughly what is the typical commitment for Dsa Maths for school like RGS?

My girl is P5 this year. Previously we were hopeful to do DSA thru sports but her sport was discontinued. She is still very much committed to that sport though, but no schools has DSA for it. For a couple of years, I was thinking just to go thru Psle score. Only recently I realised Maths may not be so hectic that she can do it and continue pursuing her sport outside. Her academic Results are good. I don’t know much about her Pri school involvement on Olympiads yet, but she will likely be joining if they participate (I guess). She doesn’t have tuition/enrichment so our commitment to guide is higher

Hello parents. Can I just check on the below to whoever kind soul who knows…


For Sasmo, there is an option for private candidates.
1) Does this mean anyone can register for it?
2) do they allow to take the test for a higher grade? (Ie a P5 to take the Grade 6 test)
3) when will the registration open?

Olympiad is something that I haven’t really heard of much in her school. She took E2k last yr. not sure if all school does NMOS. She would be keen to test herself in Sasmo this year. Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Too bad then. Guess she will just have to take Judo after school. To think RGS was national champs Div B&C for 2015 and still 2nd placing this year…

Ds#1 takes up judo last month and so far is attending once a week training of 90mins at one of the established dojo in Singapore. So far he seem to enjoy it.


I would like to ask existing judoka or parents of judoka the time you or your child took to complete the next stage Yellow belt? And your journey to attain black belt. I read that judo is a technically demanding sports and it typically takes 5-6 years to attain black belt...

My kid has been doing judo for 3.5 yrs. different schools have totally different timelines to achieve brown belt. We used to go for grading often but have chosen not to any more since dec2017. Now blue belt.

Full belt upgrade every year would seem reasonable. ie white to brown in 5-6yrs.

Do note that once kid reaches 13, they will be downgraded to an adult level belt, probably yellow. Some parents I know do not find it necessary for their kids to take gradings for this very reason

Judo used to be a DSA sport before but stopped since DSA 2018. My daughter loves Judo, with aspirations at the highest world stage. RGS, besides being an obvious good school, has a solid Judo program

Anyone here with any idea whether whether changes (removal and addition) of eligible sports are common? Ie what are the odds of Judo back in RGS DSA? Are there means to approach a relevant department for queries?

By the way, her judo is quite solid and academic-wise not much concerns.
