It is true that Chongfu PV is competitive. However, they don't do balloting. They look through each application manually and select the PVs. They try to choose PVs across a variety of background and distances, even those > 2km.

      buzzkoony:
I heard from a friend whose kid entered that Chong Fu PV is competitive and may require balloting to become PV. If not selected as PV, you can consider to join their hokkien hway kuan to qualify as phase2b.
      Judymum:

I called Chong Fu and understand that baby born in 2014 need to register in next year to be PV. Do you know what is the criteria in order to be selected as PV? What should I do if not selected as PV? stay within 1 km to the school.

As your kid is a snake baby, apply for pv in chongfu this year when the application opens and see if you are selected, then you can worry about your dilemma later.

I thought Chongfu is affiliated to SHHK and all PVs have to go through the clan before they qualify for P2B? Does Chongfu still take in PVs itself in addition to those from the clan? Anyway, if it is a popular school, something is not right if it hasn't opened its PV registration when the P1 registration is just next year, right? :scratchhead:

Chongfu is the only SHHK school that still takes in PV, so those PV selected by the school do not have to go through the clan. Yes the PVs are in addition to those from the clan, hence they try to keep the numbers small.

My bad, you are right, the pv application for the snake babies should be this year, not next year. I was confused. Thanks for pointing it out!

      Celinejaw:
      Dear all,

Would like to get your opinion.
I am staying <1km to Canberra primary. My office is very near to Chongfu. <5min walking distance. Canberra is quite a popular school in Sembawang. Thinking if go to Canberra, we can get the helper to ferry the child and we might stand better chance since we stay <1km. But we heard many good comments about Chongfu and Chongfu is better in terms of PSLE results and the commitment to curriculum as they have longer time table. My boy is snake year so not as competitive. Last year phase 2B, Chongfu didn't have ballot. The draw back is i need to arrange how he goes back home from Chongfuu. I can fetch him go. Can share with me your view? I am in such a big dillema now.

      Hi Celinejaw,

You are right that Chongfu did not have ballot last year for phase 2B. But this was because they only selected a very small number of parent volunteers to begin with. They are purposely trying to reduce balloting for phase 2B because they did not want parent volunteers to spend so much time (CF requires 80 hours) and yet didn't get in due to a failed ballot. Hence, the challenge for Chongfu is to get into the PV scheme in the first place. This year they only selected 18 parent volunteers out of 100+ applicants.

As your kid is a snake baby, apply for pv in chongfu this year when the application opens and see if you are selected, then you can worry about your dilemma later. There is always the option of a school bus. šŸ˜„

P.S.: I am assuming you are planning to take the PV route since you PMed me regarding PV in Chongfu.

      Hi Lee Yan,

      Please check your PM.

      Lee Yan:
      Hi,

I'm keen to register for Parent Volunteer for Chongfu. But read somewhere in the forum that for kids born in 2012, only 20 parents secure PV out of 100 application. Can someone who successfully secured PV with ChongFu advise how to increase my chance of successfully getting PV?

Any profile of parents the school is looking for?

      Many thanks!!

      Hi phtthp,

Thanks for your reply. Actually it is because I saw the school's ballot history and realised that in the years 2006 and 2007, there are 30 more students than usual years. Since 2006 was a dragon year, so I wanted to know if it is possible that they added an extra class due to this. I will call up the school to check if it will happen for this batch of dragon kids too.

      phtthp:
There are more than 100+ primary schools in Sg

which specific school in particular, are u asking ?
can call up that specific school, to inquire, whether your year (batch) got special treatment

      Hi,

Just wondering if popular schools will increase their intake (e.g. 1 more class for example) for the dragon year compared to the rest of the normal years? Are there such cases?

      Thank you.

my son's former primary school and secondary school opened 1 extra class for the dragon year kids. but i don't know if it will happen again.

      Dear Queen_ly,

Sorry to hear about it. We actually stay in the 1-2km range and are just trying our luck with the PV application, because otherwise there is no way we can get in at phase 2C since historically Chongfu requires balloting for < 1km in phase 2C. So while we are happy we got the PV, we are also aware that it is just a gamble between having a small chance in P2B vs no chance at all in P2C.

      Queen_ly:
      my application was rejected šŸ˜ž

I had to keep calling also, then was told out of 100 applicants they only picked 20.

Was so upset initially but i sort of got over it le, will just reg my girl to my alma mater Jiemin Primary

Hi all, just to share that our PV application for Chongfu has been selected and there would be a briefing on 19 April. It seems that sucessful applicants were not notified yet, we had to call in and check with the admin. Does anyone know what kind of duties would the Chongfu PVs be doing?

      Thank you!
