RE: MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni
dorisp:
i can't agree more.. i've my fair share of experience with the P1 registration and have gone through Phase 2B (balloted out) and Phase 2C (accepted based on distance priority).. was satisfied with the result though ds didn't get into the school under Phase 2B but was lucky to have another school in Phase 2C that meet most of our criteria.. i've learnt alot from the P1 registration and really think that many things can be improved to make it easier & fairer for other parents who will be going through it.. it wouldn't hurt us at all even if the authorities were to keep the current system unchanged.. as for my children, who will be the alumni of their school (fairly gd school with long history and secondary affiliation), i'll strongly encourage them to actively participate in the events organized by their alma mater, keep in-touch and not just sit back and reap the benefits after graduating from it many years later.
Yes I too agree that it may be personal interest for some that have young children going P1 in a few years time but I believe a lot of us here are done with this P1 thing and are here because we genuinely believe there are rooms for the P1 registration system to improve and this unlimited priorities to P2A is one big one to correct!

RE: MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni
Actually, there is nothing wrong about giving priority to alumni. However, giving unlimited vacancies to Phase 2A after the balance from Phase 1 is definitely going to be unfair to all the others that are under Phase 2B & 2C. Look at the current situation, some schools are already getting very few vacancies left for Phase 2B & 2C and in time to come, I'm very sure there will be balloting for some schools under Phase 2A. This means there will be zero vacancy left for Phase 2B & 2C. Can you imagine if you are staying in an area with only 1-2 schools within 1km and this 1-2 schools happen to be those that need balloting for Phase 2A :yikes:
Therefore, capping the number of vacancies for Phase 2A is inevitable and the authorities should look into the matter ASAP especially next year is the year where all golden piglets are going for their P1 registration.. it is going to be more challenging than this year. -

:goodpost:May I add, it is also for the better of the P1 Registration policy to better serve and stay with its Primary objective, ie for the better of the child to be able to study in a school as near to their home as possible.
All policies need constant reviews and checks and change when necessary if it deviates from its original course/objective. If left unchecked, it will soon be P1 places for children of alumni, regardless of home school distance and nothing else.

perhaps P2A should be restricted to the school where we collect our PSLE certs from? some people have 2 alumnis to choose from while others have none cos their schools have been closed down.dorisp:
Thank you for all your support
I must have missed ana_mum's post.gtx108:

I support too!!!

I think we are all here for the same purpose.. for the best of our children and hopefully when they become parents, they will have better registration system and do not need to go through the agony we have gone through (or are going through) :celebrate: :celebrate: -
RE: MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni
Just happened to be reading this thread few days ago and would like to give my 2 cents worth…
The current system is indeed giving much priority to alumni. I am not proposing to scrap away the registration phase for alumni but will definitely appreciate if the authorities do something to fine-tune the current Phase 2 category.
(1)\tAgreed with parents who wanted their children to be in the school they have previously studied in, to share the same values and cultures. However, if parents think so highly about their alma mater, shouldn’t they joined the alumni association and active participate in the school activities even before their children enter the school? I can understand giving priority to alumni, especially those actively involved, but I truly don’t understand why should priority be given to those old boys and girls who refused to join the alumni association, not involved in any of the activities and not even in-touch with anything from their alma mater until their children need to register for P1. Then they’ll go for registration with their old report book or any documentations, which they have not touch for at least 2-3 decades, to prove they were previously from the school. Worse are those parents who only studied in the school for only 1-2 years, either transfer-in or out due to some reasons. IMHO, I think the authorities should do away with Phase 2A(2) and just have Phase 2A for alumni who actively involved in their alma mater.
(2)\tPhase 2A(1) & 2A(2) are given unlimited seats for application from the balance after Phase 1. Then the balance after Phase 2A(2) will be evenly apportion to Phase 2B (50%) & Phase 2C (50%). That means applicants under Phase 2A(1) & 2A(2) who are staying >10km away from the school will be given the seat against those staying within 500m but not under this Phase. Would this be fair for those staying near and yet not within reach due to limited seats? Why can’t the balance vacancies after Phase 1 be equally apportion to Phase 2A, 2B & 2C and the balance from Phase 2A will then be evenly allocate to 2B & 2C? That will definitely increase the chances for those staying within 1km or 2km especially when most people will probably fall under Phase 2C. -
RE: [Central] Primary Schools
dd:
Ohhh... 1 seat for balloting? Do you have the breakdown? When I was there, the staff announced no balloting. Probably, there is a withdrawal?
not sure about that.. just called to ask about the P2B registration outcome and was told that balloting will be carried out for >2km..
anyway, MOE's website has published those schools that need to carry out balloting.. http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/balloting/ -
RE: [Central] Primary Schools
dd:
Just called ACSJ and confirm that there will be balloting for those >2km.. 22 applicants for 1 vacancy.. In God's favour, 1 blessed child will be given the seat :xedfingers:phtthp:
Wah jia lut ACS junior ballot liao! This year parents go all out to try. Going forward ACS j very fierce! Barker no hope ; too limited vacancies
Phtthp,
Where did you get the info that acs junior has to ballot? My understanding is no balloting at all, and all 54 seats are taken up by <2km. -
RE: [Queenstown] Primary Schools
thanks for the info
was wondering are all the PVs staying within 1km or 1-2km? dunno whether should i take the risk and join the queue in P2B (based on church affiliation) as i'm staying >2km from FMPS? :scratchhead: -
RE: 2011 P1 Registration Exercise for 2012 In-Take
Anyone knows how many PVs are there in Fairfield Methodist in P2B this year?
