    • RE: All About Bullying

      ChocolateDonut\" post_id=\"1908379\" time=\"1556635233\" user_id=\"177302:

I am wondering why labelling a child as 'having anger management issues' is like giving them the rights to go around bullying other people's children. I won't take such bullying lightly should it happen to my children.

Posting on social media, stating the school and how they condone that bully's barbaric behaviours might get the school and MOE to jump into action immediately.

      I couldn't agree more!

    • RE: No More Rote Memorization

      nelli:
Hi Tali! Sorry for the delayed response. Anyway, my daughter is currently enrolled at CCE Education. They have a branch in Hougang that’s just 5 minutes from the MRT station (#03-214 S530810). I do recommend it but of course, it’s still up to you. It doesn’t mean though, that since it worked for my daughter, it’ll work for your son the same way. I guess it depends on your son’s needs and whether CCE can provide for it or not, the last decision is yours. Good luck!

I got to know about CCE Education through a random Google search. I found it interesting how they give emphasis on cognitive intelligence, which I haven’t heard of before as far as I’m concerned.

My twin boys who are now in P3, have been with CCE for 2 years already. I’ve noticed how they’re looking forward to their Math and Science classes unlike before which they tried to stay away from.

From my experience with my twins, I realized that critical thinking empowers students to be independent, innovative
and more creative. I’m just happy that my twins got over their fear and are now having fun while learning.

    • RE: Section B (open ended questions) for science

I enrolled my son at CCE in Bishan last December. I think it’s a great investment especially if you want your child to improve in school. While studying "suggested answer keys" works for some kids, I feel like it’s rote learning. CCE emphasizes how understanding concepts is more important than just learning by memorization. I myself am not a fan of rote learning. Instead of learning to apply the concepts beyond the classroom, students only learn what they need to score well in exams.

    • RE: No More Rote Memorization

I think the biggest problem that our education system has is that rote memorization has become the main focus in the classroom. Yes, memorization is important, especially in the basics like multiplication, scientific method, etc. but I think using it in more complicated topics won’t help students gain full understanding of the subject. Teachers just keep on dumping piles of worksheets whose answers students had just discussed in school.

Having said this, I think our education system needs an ‘upgrade’. It doesn’t need to be done in a haste. It’s best if the system plans this out until it arrives at a concrete solution. Just my opinion.

    • RE: Section B (open ended questions) for science

Where is CCE located? My son is currently working with a tutor. I’m worried because it’s just like attending tuition, too many worksheets for my son to handle. I’m not even sure if he’s learning anything, to be honest.

      Hi jalyndasia!

So do you recommend CCE education? I did hear about the centre before and I am thinking of sending my child to their holiday program. The pricing is reasonable and they have a centre at Bishan that is near my place.

So basically skills and mindset is important right? I tried googling and not many centre seems to be capable to teach that.

I’m pretty sure no one wants to be nagged at. I think some people nag without them knowing it, while some do and they do a good job at it!

    • RE: Anybody kids cry in school? Please share here, worried mum

Hi Katetay…just came across this post. I know I’m a little too late but I hope your daughter learned how to go to school on her own. I think it’s normal especially for preschool age kids, saying its separation anxiety that they’re experiencing. I think assuring her that you’ll be back to pick her up will help. Or introduce her to her classmates so she’ll have friends. No two kids are alike so there may be differences in their coping mechanisms. Just be there for them, show your support and everything will turn out great.

    • RE: Listening to music while doing homework?

I believe that no two children are alike in everything, including study habits. If listening to music while doing homework makes him more comfortable and activates his thought process, I suggest you let him be. It might even work in the long run 🙂
