RE: MSP & other questions
Thanks Yewniffler, the website you provided was very informational. My dd's school didn't tell us anything about it and never knew this until we got the option form. Much appreciated!!! :rahrah:

MSP & other questions
My dd didn’t do too well for her PSLE. She scored 186 and is eligible for Normal (Academic ). In her Option form, on one of the pages, it stated she is eligible for the MALAY SPECIAL PROGRAM. I’m wondering if this is offered to all Sec1 non-Malay students or fir those who hav done alright in their languages as she scored As for both her English and Chinese. Also as she will be in NA, is it advisable for her to take MSP up if she has the interest? Also, if in the worse case scenario she cannot cope with it, is she allowed to drop it after Sec1?
Another question is, she got 186 and that’s like 2 marks below last year’s cutoff score of 188 for some schools for the Express stream! Can I make an appeal to get her into Express?
Last question, hoe many schools can I appeal to because we are torn between 2schools but as we are not from their affiliated school, we’re worried we might not get in though we stated them as 1st and 2nd choice.
Thanks and hope someone can advise me:) -
RE: Which Bedok School?
Thanks Louis & Bellarina. Actually out 1st & 2nd choices are Katong Convent & St. Anthony’s, and tho their cut-off points are reasonable, am
Just preparing in case my dd doesn’t score so well and we Wana be prepared to make the correct choices for her if she has to go to some of the Bedok schools. Thanks sooooo much! If you hear mote good things about some of those schools
Or can tell me why they are better than others, I’d greatly appreciate it ad it will help with our decision making -

Thanks jtoh for the info you provided. At least I'm alittle clearer now. Am just worried my child might not get to the 1st and 2nd schools of her choice as judging from her Maths paper yesterday, am thinking her aggregate will be affected. Sigh... The worries of a kiasu parent. Thanks again
You're welcome. Good luck to your dd for the rest of her PSLE papers. Don't worry too much about her results for now. Afterall it's based on performance of the cohort and she might be at the upper end.[/quote
Thanks so much jtoh for your encouraging words. Yah will hope for the best -
RE: Which Bedok School?
LLK:
Anglican Secondary School (all white uniform) is one of the best in Bedok. PSLE T-score must be around 245 and above.
Thanks LLK, but I don't think my child can score that high so am looking at more of the Bedok North/South/Town/Green etc schools
Just don't know anyone who have children there and want some feedback. But thanks anyway -

How Do Secondary Schools Choose Their Students
Hi Parents,
My daughter will have to pick 6 choices of Secondary Schools to enter Sec 1 next year. I know the aggregate score determines her eligibility to a certain school / stream etc. What I’d like to know is how the schools choose their students?
Is it…
1) a queue system? Eg. 1st student that meets criteria is accepted … Until they have reached the maximum no. Of places available?
2) they take those with the highest aggregates first then go down the list, using aggregate scores as they benchmark.
3) because we have marked 6 choices, and I’m guessing it takes around a month before we know which school our child is accepted in, what exactly happens in say
A) my 1st choice is School A but they have reached their max
B) how do they let my 2nd choice know they won’t take me? By this time my 2nd choice school would have already chosen those who have made THIS school their 1st choice etc.
Sorry am very blur and not sure if my question is understandable. I just Wana know what my child’s chances will be if her aggregate is only so-so so that we can also mentally prepare ourselves as some schools will give priorities to their affiliated schools as well. Very chiong hey but hope someone can give me a clearer picture and some good advice. Thanks
