I think online forum such as this is great when I can learn and share from other parents’ experiences and knowledge. Though I have come to accept his condition, I do have a lot of questions of understanding his condition and I felt that I want to learn all the aspects of tackling and coping with my son. I feel that I am walking around blind-folded and learning through touching and falling (ouch!). The additional areas I am looking at:
1) Hear from professionals like Speech and Occupational Therapist on the cause of certain behaviours or speech issues and learn a few techniques of overcoming
2) How each type of intervention can help, such as ABA, TEACCH or even nutrition can make my son feel better
3) The process of applying for the different types of government-run/subsidised centres and the feedback on these centres - I think very often one parent will come online and ask about how to apply and which centre is good type of questions. If there is a central place to get updated information, it would be good. Though CEL website provides the key data, it does not provide info on teaching methods and what type of kids are suitable
4) Parents’ success stories of bringing HF kids through mainstream preschool and to primary schools
And also to feedback to government on the different needs that is required for these special children
My son is 3 going on 4 and I find information very lacking in this area.
Not sure if ARC or AAS has any type of parents’ support group. If anyone has come across, please suggest.

RE: All About Autism
Hi Junemom
Every special needs child is different and rather than looking at HFA, it would be good if you go deeper and understand where your child is good at and need more help on.
My son is considered High Functioning Autism as he is verbal and is able to cope with daily live relatively well. However, we still have to work on his rigidity and his sensory issues. He is doing home based ABA and has privvate OT and ST in addition to EIPIC
Maybe you can share your child’s situation. -

Hi
Can I ask if any parents here joined any support group for autism or special needs? Please share your experience if so.
I’m thinking of joining one -

RE: Any Chinese Physician to recommend? :)
Hi mommies,
would like to share my son TCM with you 陈洁慧医师。 I’m have allergic rhinitis for years and so my son is sensitive as well. She specialised in treating infant, toddlers and chidren up to 10 years old. She uses herbs to 熏鼻子 nose ventilation as well as baby massage to treat sensitive nose. Particularly if you have cold, it works very well. Although my son do not have strong allergy now I also let him do baby massage for prevention and save medical costs in future
Adult can also use the nose ventilation too. 陈医师used to be at Neil Road and now opens her new place at Havelock Road, near Tiong Bahru Plaza.
If mommies are interested, please pm me for her contact.
