• RE: Application for NUS/NTU Medicine 2020/2021

Hi there,

You may want to try working in a GP clinic for a few months while waiting. Otherwise due to Covid, it is difficult to get attachment now.

I heard LKC going to conduct orientation on 3rd July. Looks like there is no more spot for the wait lister's this year in LKC. But NUS offered for many wait listers and LKC very very few.
How sure are you? I have called the admission office and they are still giving out offers for the waitlist students. Students will be notified by their outcome even till 3rd week of July.

Based on last year statistics, there were students got offered even at the last week of July before the start of M1.

Orientation will commences in the first week of August 2020.

They are still finalising students as well from MINDEF of enlistees for disruption.

Nothing is confirmed yet as it is still June 2020. We will see when July commences.

I thin he is leaning towards NTU for these reasons... not too sure but some fair points.

1) NTU has BMAT filter - thus people who are going NTU could be said to already have a desire for Medicine way before and thus took the trouble to apply and study and sit for BMAT though it was so close to A Levels. Because of that, the students there could generally speaking, be more driven. This does not mean NUS students are not driven, most definitely are! But can't deny the fact there can also be sizeable portion of students who just got 90 UAP and decided to give Medicine a shot and luckily got in - so the drive / passion may not be the same. Of course like what I said, not to generalise the student populations, but there is truth in DS words too i guess...

2) He is definitely more vocal kind i feel... feel tbl will fit him better and also bc he likes to debble in non academic areas maybe ntu can give him more freedom to mix and match his schedule. versus nus very lecture heavy. (Heard 8 to 4 on many days), thus may not have the flexibility of schedule to do what he likes outside

worried that he is not self-disciplined to study prior to tbl lessons though... if never study beforehand no point go tbl sessions also.... but at same time he wished there was a mix of both schools of lectures and tbl but theres no ideal option either....

he is very interested about the holistic experience, ie school life, cip opportunties, bonding school events aside from acads... anybody have opinions on this to share? maybe can like a side by side comparision between nus and ntu on such things outside of academic approach...
Hi there,

Congrats on your child offer. You may check out the past posts on the comparison of NUS and NTU. Based on words of mouth of the school life. It depends on the personality character.Ms for your child. For instance, my child enjoys the hall life in NUS and the hall life exceeded their expectations yearly among their peers. A range of wide activities in the hall for activities that was plan by their management team of students to allow students to have a vibrant life.

NUS also has a wide range of course activities that allows students to choose from and take part in the programme which allows them to excel in their potential. In regards to the timetable, it can be lecture based for the day but if your child can managed well in both academic and personal activities, there is no reason that whichever meds school that he chooses affects his personal activities thereafter.

Personally, I feel that depends on your child personality and characters, if he prefers team based learning approach and wants to get exposure of clinical attachment in later years, while still wishes to enjoy school and hall life in university, NUS would be the choice for him. But, if he inclines for tbl approach wants to experience at the environment of medical field attachment early, then NTU.

In view of the timeline for this to make a decision, make the best out of it and all the best. My friend’s daughter till date still not hear anything. She is getting anxiety and restless nights. As parent, I do worry about her mental and physical health.

I just managed to get through LKC. They are waiting for the NS disruption outcomes for the male enlistees. There is a number of NS males are offered for medicines and MINDEF is finalising the offers. Please don’t call MINDEF to rush the process.

As the admission team explained, both meds school are waiting for the enlistees disruption outcome and there could be a possible chance that enlistees might not be disrupted to read medicines as of this year. They may push to read medicine either next year or following year depending on their ORD dates. The team were not able to give us the timeline on when MINDEF will be done for this process. However, the admission team is very certain that so long your child has not receive any email from the admission team of NTU stating that they are rejected from the waitlist, you can just rest assured that your child could be offered based on their waitlist.

Another point that I have spoken to the team about the waitlisted offers that it may extend beyond mid-July 2020 before the start of the orientation programme in LKC. Waitlisted students don’t have to worry about this for now as from the admission team in LKC and added on YLL that NS enlistees offered for medicine are waiting for disruption letter.

Nevertheless, we have till July for the overall outcome. For now, just take it easy and breathe a little and good things will come eventually for the waitlisted students. We have braved through circuit breakers and phase 1 during this period and surely enough we can just wait a little longer for them to finalise.

Hi, may I know if an iPad is necessary for med sch? If it is, what is a suitable size?
It is good to have if you are going for YLL. But for LKC, the students will be issued an iPad for TBL. May I know which meds school that your children has been offered?

Ultimately, iPad is a tool that depends on students needs and how convenient that fits for individual learning.

Your children is eligible for education pricing if you purchase your iPad online. For a IPad with 32Gb, it can as cheap as $450 estimated if you are facing financial matters. iPad mini is also doable for about $500 plus as an estimation.

Hope this clarifies your doubts.

This is a platform where every parents here is concern about their child outcome for medicine. It is not a platform to throw discrimination and comparison about one’s identity.

Whether you are a SG/PR/International student, it doesn’t matter what your child is, they just wanna to pursue their dream course and get a job after that and repay you.

Therefore, I seek everyone here to show respect and refrain from shading one and another.

Meanwhile to all parents who are anxious about their children waitlist outcome in medicine, do keep everyone posted.

I do also personally emailed to NTU about some concerns on whether they will open up more spots this year in view of the pandemic situation and how might some students has applied to this course under late admission in view of their overseas offers and the delay of school reopening.

I will try my best to keep everyone posted meanwhile take care!

Anyone knows when NTU will be giving out the offers or roughly how many offers? Previous years' offers weren't this late
Hi Monsta,

I would predict from next week onwards the offers will be released in batches and they will have to accept within the time frame by then should they choose to read medicine in NTU or NUS. The admission team requires time to sort out the number of remaining offers before giving to the waitlisted students. As quoted from other parents in this forum, they have emailed NTU admission and the reply is give them sometimes to sort out and they will notify the waitlist positions students ASAP by July.

Understand from the parents anxiety that in view of the Covid19 situation, there are students who has applied and offered for medicines are staying back to practice locally. However, university from overseas are taking extra precautious measures for students to start school terms later in Oct/Nov and returning international students are to obey the stay in quarantine for 2 weeks in UK. (I have got this from ST video for travellers who returned to UK and their updates through the immigration). There are also students who do applied for late admission in the different universities and requesting to study here for a semester before returning back to overseas. No information given on this yet but I am very sure that in due course they are sorting out the admission matters.

As this preceding times and anxieties upon us, I wish all the waitlisted students to be patient for this moment and I am very sure your children will be offered in due course.

Hi! Apple12245,
I guess that it should be around now and end before 17 June (2nd acceptance window). Offer would make as and when places are available. This was stated on LKCSoM information leaflet sent via email to those after their MMI interviews. NTU will definitely send notification to those on waitlist regardless of the outcome.

I have heard that the waitlist was around 60. At the moment we hope for the best.
Hi,
Many thanks to your info. About the wait list number of 60, is this info from the NTU admission office?
Btw, has the wait list started moving? Has anyone heard of students in LKC waitlist gotten firm offer?
About the waitlist around 60 was passes by word of mouth from some students family members.
I heard from my friend's daughter that the waitlist in NTU has started moving. Hopefully everyone in the waitlist, including my friend's daughter will be offered to NTU meds very soon. While waiting, if by word of mouth, anyone has any ideas how many students has accepted the offer in NTU meds? Would appreciate if there is some numbers.
