I believe both NUS and NTU could streamline and narrow down their offer and acceptance processes. The current process of the candidates getting offered a place from both sides are causing stalemate and unproductive.
In my opinion students can still apply for both medical schools. Which side of the system that triggered the earliest offer will take precedent of that candidate for that school (e.g. NUS or NTU) and the other school (e.g. NUS or NTU) will not be allowed to trigger another offer. This allow the system to prioritize the queue rather than managing them manually. Those who applied for Dentistry along with Medicine but got an early offering from Dentistry will not be getting an offering from both medicine schools. This is fair and will allow more medical prospects to be offered. Thus removing bottleneck and allow a smoother flow of the system.
The current system of practice allow students to chope popular courses like Medicine, Dentistry and Law with disregard of their nature of preference and passion. After that they just wait for the offer to come and then lost of which courses to choose. Chope is a bad system as it allows people to reserve a place, such as a seat at a hawker center or fast food restaurant, sometimes by placing a packet of tissue paper on the seats. This has caused those poor fellows who had came earlier than them unable to get seats (e. g. Causing bottleneck).
I hope the relevant authorities could look into improving the system flows to better manage the processes.I don't see a problem with the current system. Why should good candidates who have offers from both school be limited to the choice of one school? Doesn't that defeat the whole concept of meritocracy? -
May I know if accepted students have received any further instructions for registration, eg health screening and disruption for NS boys etc, yet? Is it possible that LKC is busy with these matters? Perhaps they have no time to attend to the freed up places yet.
There isn’t much online information on the LKC waitlist but in the past some waitlisted people posted that they received offers around the 1st week of June. Interestingly, there are people who believe that the LKC waitlist moves a lot (even as recent as last year) and people who say it hardly moves. Perhaps "many" or "few" is just subjective. -
Its actually widely said that lkc waitlist moves more than nus. However, last year, lkc waitlist didnt move as much i think. Perhaps they changed their system of offering by over-offering in the first wave

What you said is possible. We should still see some movement of the waitlist and I am inclined to think it will be this or next week (hopefully). I don't think the LKC admissions team is big and the CB must have disrupted the registration/ waitlist process. My daughter called last week to check and she said the person sounded hassled.

Disruption is under the purview of MINDEF... Health screening is by NTU medical centre, Hostel is by NTU's housing unit...

Thanks TurtleSoup. I am assuming the NS disruption cases affect the vacancy numbers? I may be grasping at straws here but there are many unknown factors and the universities are still within reasonable time to offer waitlisters. :xedfingers:

My views : -
When a student who has applied for NUS and NTU Medicine stand a better chance of at least getting an offer from one or both schools. I believe his interest is to study medicine and is willing to accept an offer given to him by either school. A system that is able to prioritize and issue an offer but not from both is much meritocratic in my opinions.
Likewise it is also applicable to those who opted for Dentistry, Medicine and Law. Which university that extend an earliest welcoming offer will take precedent over the other courses in his lists. It will ensure students to pick their choice courses carefully and not to hunker all the popular courses with disregard of their interest in mind. This way it will free up resources and more places would be allocated fairly. -
Hi, may I know if an iPad is necessary for med sch? If it is, what is a suitable size?

It is good to have if you are going for YLL. But for LKC, the students will be issued an iPad for TBL. May I know which meds school that your children has been offered?

Ultimately, iPad is a tool that depends on students needs and how convenient that fits for individual learning.
Your children is eligible for education pricing if you purchase your iPad online. For a IPad with 32Gb, it can as cheap as $450 estimated if you are facing financial matters. iPad mini is also doable for about $500 plus as an estimation.
Hope this clarifies your doubts. -

There's no hurry for you to get the necessity now. Every campus has a Computer IT Accessories and Supplies Shop. They sell relevant stationeries, Laptops and iPads at student price. You can shop it when you are at the campus.
