Hi, I’m also keen to have my kid take the Mensa test too. But it seems that they only allow kids who are 14yrs and above to take the test in Singapore. So now I’m at a lost too.

Hi Dennisl, I can't help but agree with you (despite the fact that I am getting tired of sitting in front of the piano already 😢 ) ... But even for an amateur like me, I can see the difference in his playing skills and improvement. So I will continue to hang in there for now... 😐

      Hi Sunset Dae,

Did you asked the doctor about any possible side effects? I am worried about introducing some unknown drugs to my son’s body… Especially about the H1N1 jab, as it is so new… I have heard that some child gets negative side effects of losing their concentration due to the flu jab. That’s why I’m abit hesitant. Thanks again.

Hi Dennisl, going back to your question about how I managed to make my son practices for so many hours a day… I think mainly its because of the work assigned by his teacher. His teacher will tell us which songs to practise during the week and how many times each day. So by the time all is done, it will be 2/3hours. But this is including the time he gets down to have a drink, go washroom etc… But in general, it will be a good 1 and 1/2hours on the piano. …Kids are very smart and are usually "afraid" of their teacher. They will usually do what they teacher tell them. Maybe you can sync up with the teacher on this, and let her tell your child his/her homework.

    • RE: NAFA School of Young Talents - Discussion

Hi, my son has attended Yamaha, Cristofori and NAFA at different stages of his learning  (kiasuparent) and my thoughts are as these....

Yamaha, emphasis alot on building the child's aural and listening skills. They emphasis alot on solfege singing to let the child get creative music influence. Hence a child is only allow to take graded examinations after 4-5years of training and their examination is not ABRSM.

Cristofori is a \"general\" school, in the sense that they do not emphasis too much on anything. They will allow kids to skip grade and most of the time, the kid will get a general pass/pass with merit.

NAFA emphasis alot on technics and expects all kids to get distinction, at the expense of the kid losing his passion and interest in piano. But the kid can expect to complete Grade8 in 4 years.

... For me, I based my decision on the final goal. Why do I let him learn piano? Every parents/child has different reasons. For me, of course, firstly is to let him develop an addition skill. But \"kiasuly\", hopefully this skill will help him get into a good school. And from what I read, a child needs good Grade8 to get into DSA or MEP. Meaning likely distinctions for all Grades.

So if your child has started piano early and has enough years to get Grade8 by Primary 6, I would think getting good grades is important.

Above are my 2cents worth. Hope its helps 😄

Hi, I have the exact same query too. Not sure if the vaccine is safe for kids. …What about the normal flu jab? Is that safe for kids too. My child is now only 5yrs. Thks.
