This is what i will recommend as a Maths/science specialist tutor.


Science -> Small or Big Group tuition (Understanding, concepts and explaining correctly)
Maths -> Mini group or private tuition (Deep understanding, interlinking topics, practising)

My honest opinion of getting a good private tutor is through word of mouth and unfortunately depends on your luck. As every child is unique, there is no guarantee that the tutor suits you.
