      LSP:
I'm looking for people to share their experiences with the CMA exams.

What do we expect during the CMA exam? Which grade was your child's first exam? Why does the child need to go for an exam?

WHAT: The child will be given 10minutes to complete 10 Abacus Questions and 3 minutes to complete 10 Mental Questions. If the child was also recommended to take the Aural Mental Test, he/she would be tested with 3 questions; of which 2 must be correct to pass the test.

WHICH GRADE: Understand that a child is eligible for the CMA exams once he/she starts on Grade 13 (descending order). However, for my niece, the teacher only recommended the exam for her when she was at Grade 12 for both Abacus and Mental because Grade 13 is too far easy a challenge for any CMA students.

WHY: Honestly, it's to challenge the child. My niece tends to take her own sweet time to complete her class work and homework, so when the teacher set a timer for her to complete her work, it really helps in pushing her to complete the sums faster. But the key challenge from the tests is to complete all the questions Accurately in the Fastest speed possible, AND still have time to Check the answers.
At my niece's centre, the teachers also usually recommend the tests for students who are keen on joining the annual CMA Competition during the June School Holidays as it serves as a form of practice for the students.
Of course, if we're talking about from CMA point of view, the centre stands to earn money as well since they are a business? @@ The exam is optional for students, and is not free, but my family and I feel that it is still a worthy investment since my niece wanted to challenge herself.

Great news for Parents; just heard this great news from my niece's CMA centre when I was enquiring.

For Parents keen on trying a Abacus/Mental Arithmetic Programme for your kids, CMA is having a FREE TRIAL lesson promotion now till 26 Nov 2016.

Parents just need to register for your Free Trial Lesson via this link: http://trial.cma.edu.sg/

Understand that the child must be:
-At least of 4years of age

-Know the Number Sequence from 0 to 9

Registration for the Free Trial Lesson closes on 26 Nov 2016, and the Free Trial Lesson must be redeemed by 23 Dec 2016 as most CMA centres will be closed from 24th Dec 2016.

      hi all,

my child is in the abacus class. i wondering what other ways can i make abacus fun for him? is it true, that it is possible to count with an abacus in the brain? thank you

Hi not sure which Abacus programme your child is in, but my niece is in the CMA Advanced Programme, and yes she visualises the abacus in her head to do her mental arithmetic sums. :).

    • RE: All About Abacus Training

There's a ongoing FREE TRIAL promotion for NEW CMA Mental Arithmatic students.

Parents have to state their interest via the form at http://trial.cma.edu.sg/

Understand the promo is valid till 8 August 2016, and parents have to \"redeem\" their free trial lesson by 31 August 2016, after which the trial lesson fee of $31 applies.

This would be great for any parents considering CMA to train your kids' mental abilities.

Your child would need to be at least 3.5 years old. know the number sequence and how to write numbers 0 to 9.

Erm, I don't see reviews given here...can parents share in here so we can read how well cma is helping our kids?

Referral codes can be pm for privacy but would like some reviews...
      Thx!
Well this is a experience I shared about 2 years ago...said nephews have already stopped CMA altogether becos my sister has too many enrichment classes for them, and both are very clear on what they are more interested in, and would like to continue with so yeah.

<<My twin nephews are learning at CMA, and becos the older twin is more disciplined and interested in the concepts taught at CMA, he's, ah thriving at his lessons and his mental calculations are wonderful--for a 5-year old! I know CMA incorporated both the Abacus and Mental Arithmatic system in their teachings; cos he has this thing called a Picture Card which is a reflection of the Abacus but the beads are replaced by pictures to help them visualise the beads when calculating sums. He's using the card to calculate his sums.

But my younger nephew is not interested at all, and he always complains that using the Abacus is tedious, and find no \"meaning\" in learning, much less memorising the concepts or the activities conducted during his class, so my sister pulled him out.

But after attending the classes, both my nephews are able to observe and remember things better; albeit the older one is always beating the younger one in observing the same things faster. Like, they would both notice a different coloured flower in the bush of red flowers but my older nephew would always point it out to us first, before my younger nephew complains that gorgor beat him to it. 😜

      Just my two-pence's worth. πŸ™‚ >>

Hope this helps other parents in deciding. My baby still has to learn how to stand on his feet, so I'm not in a hurry to join yet. 😜

Just curious... Anyone can share if abacus lessons are useful? Does it really help your child? Thinking of alternative enrichment ideas.

My observation is that it really depends on your child...
