RE: Bird nest
pink_rabbit:
Hi, i thinking eating bird nest is the best when it comes to coughing. Plus it is good for health and complexion :rahrah:
Personally my family take bird nest 1-2times a month...love it!!
Can be quite costly though..but i order my bird nest from this person that is selling bird nest cheaper than outside. $650 for 5.5liang..
tried it and the quality is very good. if interested can get directly from her
seller's contact 96794879
Hi,
I have started taking bird nest regularly after my surgery as bird nest is supposed to aid cell regeneration so it's good for recovery after operations.
Now my family including my kids take it regularly too.
We buy ours from an Indo friend who's a direct supplier from Central Java and cost only $500 for 250g which is 6.65 liang.
It is definitely alot cheaper since no middlemen. The quality is good too. Most important to me is it doesn't contain any chemicals and also no pests smells. I have tried some that have pests smells and my friend explained its due to unhygienic bird nest 'caves'.
Pm me if you want his contact. -

Dear All,
I know ths sounds rather pre-sumptous..but can anyone advice which secondary school do the graduates of the YZ go to typically since there is no affliated secondary school?
Im actually aiming for DS to enter YZ and thus hoping to buy a place in Serangoon, however, am at the same time torn between the fact that having a Sec School affliation may be a safer bet like KCPP --> KCSS. this decision currently hampers the property purchasing decision as well :frustrated:
Anyone has any thoughts? most appreciate.
Thanks!
michelle
Hi Michelle,
Every year, there will be a few of the higher scorers going to RI, NUS High, Cedar Girls, RGS, Catholic High, Anderson. The majority will progress on to the nearby schs like Zhonghua, PLMGS, St Gabriels, Bowen, Yuying etc.
KCPPS and KCPSS are pretty average schools academically-speaking so doesn't really make a difference. Unless you are aiming at a pri sch with an affiliated sec sch that is very strong academically, then perhaps it makes alot of difference.
And if you feel that it will make your child's life easier and less stressful if you go for a sch with affiliation, by all means, go ahead:) -
RE: Yangzheng Primary
FYI, the P1 Chinese books have just arrived today at the sch bookshop.

RE: 2014 TOP PSLE T-SCORE (EXCL HMT) - THE MAGIC 3D NUMBERS
alng:
A popular primary school's principal (not SAP school) once told me that students who do well in MT will usually do well in the other subjects. I guess if the child has the perseverance to \"conquer\" MT, that child is likely to \"conquer\" all the other subjects.

Guess it didn't apply to me. Chinese was my only A* in PSLE and my only distinction in O levels.
Though my niece scored A* for Chinese, A for Maths and English, B for Science. Her score is 243.
My neighbour's ds scored A* for Maths, A for English and Science and B for Chinese. His score is only in the high 220s.
So better to put all resources in Chinese to score well for PSLE -

My daughter scored band 1 for all subjects except for MT. While the option proposed by bekithia appeared attractive, the thought of removing MT (so that my dd can enter the best sec school) never cross my mind simply because we are ๅไบบใInstead I plan to help my dd improve her standard of Chinese for her new school year.
Seriously speaking, by removing MT, the likely outcome is that time and effort will be diverted to the remaining 3 subjects and not even bother to start, not to mention about appreciating the beauty of Chinese later in life. As an analogy, if French or Spanish is not a PSLE subject, how many students will spend the energy to study them?
It may be extreme, but look at how PRCs pick up English, literally reading the dictionary from cover to cover. Not easy for them to pick up English.
As an alternative, instead of removing MT from PSLE, why not consider removing English? What do you think will happen overnight? It won't be surprising to see our Chinese standard improve by leaps and bounds overnight.
Strange that only Singapore Chinese have problems with MT, never hear Malays or Tamils complain about their MT.
The key here is Not Removing Chinese from PSLE, nor any subjects. It is the way the PSLE score is computed that those who score well in chinese will score more points as opposed to those who are stronger in the other subjects. See, the weightage of every subject is equal but the points scored for each individual subject is dependent on the mean and standard deviation of performance of the cohort for each subject.
For example, a 75 mark scored for Science and Chinese will yield a totally different weightage.
There are many who do very well for Mother Tongue, even perfect scores but not as high for English or Science(according to the exam results released by the schools in the report books). So is this a fair way to gauge the overall ability of a child? -

I don't agree the point of bekitha. Learning Chinese language is important for Chinese people. Unfortunately , student regardless primary and secondary, student write Chinese words is very less so that students don't like Chinese language any more. Ten years back, one new Chinese word student need write at least twenty times. Nowadays my girl only write 3 times for new word. Student can not remember these words. As parents I need ask my girl to write these words for another 5 times again. Chinese and English are more on hard working. If u read more books, write more words, these two subjects can be improved a lot. Hope moe need ask student to write more words for these two subjects.
Hi Gardenia64,
What I am suggesting doesn't make MT or in your case Chinese any less important. I do agree that learning Mother Tongue is important. Not only for the Chinese but the other races as well. I am effectively billingual, having scored A* and A1 for my Psle and O levels respectively but I did well as I came from a chinese speaking background and languages were my strength. Thus I also scored well for my psle. But I really pity many children nowadays who had to spend so many hours on Chinese academic tuition and yet couldn't excel in Chinese. Often the long hours they spent on their MT became a liability to them and make them reject their MT even more.
If MT is taken out from the computation of T score and given bandings instead, the focus of parents will be to concentrate more on inculcating the beauty of Chinese culture and language, rather than learning to excel in exams. This would have far reaching positive effects on our next gen's interest in the language. -
RE: 2014 TOP PSLE T-SCORE (EXCL HMT) - THE MAGIC 3D NUMBERS
quixation:
What i meant was searching for highest t score instead of looking at mean average of the cohort or national levels. Sure t score helps in COP and gauging a pupil's competency in the respective subjects..but emphasising on who & which school and which race was the top student who obtained the highest t score, i *scratch head*
Does Tscore helps at all in gauging a student's competency? I strongly doubt so.
Over the years even from my own PSLE experience, the Tscore has rewarded those students who are strong in their languages esp Mother Tongue and discounted those who are weak in languages but stronger in Maths and Science.
I hv come across my own classmates who scored C in Chinese but did very well in other subjects who scored much lower than those who achieved A* in Chinese but weaker in Science and Maths. This system benefits those PRC students the most, doesn't it?
I have come across many examples like the above.
But the same classmates of mine who scored a low Tscore due to weak Chinese went on to score great results in O levels when Chinese/MT is not a requisite in the best 6 subjects.
MOE..its time for a change in the computation of T-score. Fairer way to gauge the competency of a child is to only use the 3 main subjects, English, Maths and Science to computate while MT should be banded HD, D, Merit and Pass and reward with extra 3, 2 and 1 points respectively
This can be done easily since there are now many students who are exempted from Mother Tongue and their Tscores are based on the other 3 subjects anyway.
This can even effectively reduce number of students finding ways and means to drop Mother Tongue :celebrate: -
RE: Yangzheng Primary
Hi Matchoo
Yes the P1s are randomly assigned to their form classes and will stay put till end of P2. The re-allocation of classes happens at the end of P2 and P4.
The new system I mentioned affects the P4s going on to P5 next year.
