    • RE: Yangzheng Primary

The school seemed to hv changed its way of class allocation this year after a change of principals. And no one from the school bothers to reply to parents' queries on the forum here anymore

We were pretty impressed with the school initially as it stood out from other schools in the way they allocate the students to their form classes. Instead of using the average of the students' results based on all 4 subjects, the students were allocated to their form classes based on the strength of their English and Science. They were then allocated to different Maths and Mother Tongue classes based on their individual abilities in these 2 subjects. We thought this was such a great idea as it does not penalize students who are weak in their Mother Tongue and yet was able to group the students in different classes according to their individual strengths and weaknesses.
Oh well..very disapppointed in the new system now as using average of 4 subjects is what most other schools do and does not reflect the students' real abilities.

      U r welcome

They are allowed to wear PE shirt and shorts to school on PE days and House Tshirt and shorts on Fridays for the upper primary. Not too sure abt this but my girl mentioned lower pri wear House Tshirts on Wed instead of Fri. This is regardless of whether they hv PE on that day or not.

      Hi Ivylow,

I usually get 2 PE T-shirts and 1 House T-shirt for my kids. House t-shirt is worn once a week so 1 is enough.

    • RE: St. Gabriel's Secondary School

My son is considering St. Gab as one of his choices for secondary sch selection. He likes the culture of the sch but main concern is the academic performance which is not provided on their website.

Info on the selection booklet states that highest score of affiliated students admitted from St Gabriel’s Pri is only 223 last yr.

We are curious as to why their boys fr affiliated pri sch with 224 T score above not choose St Gab’s?

Hope parents or alumni of the sch can enlighten us.

It's misleading to only look at one top score from each school.

NYPS has 45 kids with PSLE of 270 and above, 232 kids with PSLE above 250 and the mean aggregate PSLE score of the entire cohort of 490 kids is 239. These numbers exclude HCL extra points.

Well, to be fair to the non-gep schools, we'll have to exclude the gep students fr the cohort. NYPS has 4 classes of gep, thus they have a minimum of 100 gep students. Take them away and you get 132 kids with T-score above 250. That's abt 33.8%.

    • RE: My Maid Said Instant Noodle Is A Snack to Them

      genmai:
Same goes for Burmese maids. Their appetite for rice is twice of ours. My maid told me she was still hungry after a plate of chicken rice which I was struggling to finish!

Can't agree more. I've employed maids from Phil, Indo and Burma and the one thing they all have in common is their huge appetite for rice and they wd love to eat rice for all 3 meals!

But my current Phil maid has gotten used to bread with kaya, jam and/or butter for breakfast.

She eats whatever I cook but I'll usually set aside a reasonable portion of dishes for her rather than let her help herself to them.

If we are out for dinner without her, she'll either cook fried rice(with extra rice I prepared the evening before) with luncheon meat, ham or bacon with egg and frozen mixed vege, or buy mixed rice(<$3) from the stall near home. If there are leftover dishes from dinner, she'll have them with rice for lunch the following day. I don't limit the amount of rice she eats as I feel that doing housework for a family of 6 consumes alot of energy but my maid quite 'zi dong' so far. Whenever there's leftover rice, she'll keep them in the fridge for lunch the next day.

      Hi Liling,

P1 and P2 children get to try a different cca each term. But the modular ccas are conducted separately and are distinct from the usual ccas for the P3s and above. The modular cca choices were given in a list beginning of the year and each class rotates between the ccas every term.

      Eg for P1
Term 1 : Batik Painting, Chinese Brush Painting, Chinese Calligraphy (choose 1)

      Term 2: Gymnastics

Term 3: Ethnic Dance, Creative Movement

Term 4: Touch Typing, Basic First Aid, BodyLanguage

      Hope this info helps 😄
