alright, should not set up IHCSS. Must let the kids love the language and appreciate the culture. Sorry, folks.

RE: [PSLE MT] PSLE less weightage in Chinese / Mother Tongue
3Boys, you may call me old fashioned. but since young, it just knocked into me (not by parents though) that if i am chinese i should know it. it is my roots. It is pretty shocking that some of us here just view our chinese language as a subject. Of cos i should not criticise people for that, but it is very funny that japs are good at japanese, korea good at koreans, chinese good at chinese. singaporean chinese are good at english, weak at chinese. i think we are victims of the language policy. we sacrifice our roots for our economic growth. that is why we had the situation and debate now. countries like taiwan/hk may seems weaker than us economically, but culturally they are much stronger. but economics is not hard to catch up, cultural part once it is lost , it is lost forever.

ha, i agree to one of the post, Set up a school called: I Hate Chinese secondary school. Those who select to go to this school no need to count chinese in PSLE. just need to use 3 subjects = 300 marks.
DSA Entry Condition: They must prove that they really hate the subject to the core and want to migrate overseas because of this subject. A medical visit to IMH is preferred. This group of losers (or you can call them bright sparks or elites) are given a new syllabus called CL H (H for hatred). They only need to know 3 phrases to pass CL H. 我恨华文, 我讨厌华文, 我不是华人。 -
RE: [PSLE MT] PSLE less weightage in Chinese / Mother Tongue
the whole debate about PSLE weighting died down suddenly because MOE didn't want it to blow up too big. It is very sensitive for different categories of people. Some groups want it, some groups hate it. btw, as parents, if you want MOE to hear our views,
kindly write to http://www.moe.edu.sg/feedback -
RE: [PSLE MT] PSLE less weightage in Chinese / Mother Tongue
In the definitiion of education, there is a need to maintain fairness. Of course it is obvious that school dun forcus on music/art or health education. But it is very rare that we see a country education choose to neglect mother tongue education and allocate it a lower status by reducing weightage or relegating students good in Mother Tongue to lower league (in this case, normal stream).
For a move like that, it would only cost regrets in parents in future. I sincerely hope parents would rethink our child learning attitude and not let the policy makers sway our children future with their unsound policy.
I strongly oppose to what MOE is proposing. Concerned parents please feedback:

hate it from the government neglect the silent majority like us. it benefits only a small group at the expense of large group. -
RE: [PSLE MT] PSLE less weightage in Chinese / Mother Tongue
hey fellow parents,
Just read it from other discussion board, imagine that if our child all subjects average grade, MT ok, A should not be a problem as over 80% get A or A* each year, then now they decrease the MT weightage, our kids might lose out as there are a group of kids who are super good in their English and get the benefits out of it!
Then when it came to applying for schools, we might lose out, because my girl belongs to the average category. Please advise! worried… -
RE: [PSLE MT] PSLE less weightage in Chinese / Mother Tongue
I believe that MOE might be misled by a vocal group of parents who wanted things in their ways. For us, we tried our best to communicate with our child in both languages, read story books for them in 2 languages. we tried hard for these years, knowing the importance of both languages. Then suddenly, MOE announced chinese weighing cut?
What kind of signal is MOE sending to future parents? I think we as young parents need to think about it and not let MOE send us the wrong signal. Our child should not be swayed by these frequent change. Only hope that other young parents would be like most of us, trying hard to inculcate good chinese values through language to other child. Alas, MOE is controlled by Kantangs. -

Dear fellow parents,
if you are concerned about the PSLE cutting of MT weighing, kindly lend your support to the petition. Just imagine the consequences of the reduction in mother tongue weighing it has on the motivation to learn the language!!

RE: [PSLE MT] PSLE less weightage in Chinese / Mother Tongue
Dear fellow parents, I strongly oppose to this decision, because it will only benefit those who are super strong in English language. My child can manage both languages quite ok. not superb. so with this new weighing, my child would be disadvantaged!!
It is a form of elitism by a small group of parents who has been pressurising the government. If we let them have their way, our children would be strongly disadvantaged. I spoken to other parents about it and they felt the same way too!
I called up MOE call centre this afternoon to reflect my view to Mr Ng Eng Hen. They recorded my message and would relay to Mr Ng. I hope more parents would follow suit and do likewise. As a parent who really wants my child to have a good foundation in own Chinese language and English Language, such a drastic move by MOE is simply language suicidal.
MOE call centre phone no is 68722220. Just say that you want to air your view on the latest PSLE MT weightage issue and the kind officer will help you relay your message. More voice the better, i strongly oppose to the change in weighing. It is just unfair to my boy or someone who is more linguistically inclined. MOE everyday change policy, if we believe in everyone of them and not think on our feet, we will be cheated by them!
Do not be silent about it, it is our children future education. :x
