      Victorica:
      Hello everyone,

Does anyone thinks CCHMS punishment is harsh? My dd is studying at cchms, told me that she saw and experienced many different types of punishment. Detention and teachers forcing students to copy large chunks of text or do reflection are very common . After exams debrief, teachers can force the whole level of students to stay back for one hour! :scared: :scared: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

At flag-raising ceremony, there are just too many students rushing down, causing a massive jam at cramp walkways and staircases. As a result, the teachers have to block out the students who cant reach there on time. then the Discipline Master will punish them by asking them to do 20 squads and more while facing the morning sun. My dd said a male teacher even pulled her hair to stop her from joining her class, I am so shocked! :scared: How can a teacher do that to a student? especially he is a male?!   My dd always do things with a sense of urgency, but bc her classroom is very far from the parade square, the whole class always comes later than others, and the crowd jamming the staicases wont allow them to come down fast enough.

I personally feel that the school should not be punishing for no good reason. CCHMS is a generally a good school, they educate students on knowledge, they shouldn't make students suffer pain and humiliation in front of thousand of pupils. The DM always claims that he does not care if parents asked why is the school doing that, he claims they are EDUCATING the students to make them learn. Isn't that a bit too harsh?
Yes totally Agreed. CCHM punishment is very harsh. Discipline methods are not intelligent.

My DD's classmates called a girl \"fat\" and were suspended from lesson. The \"fat\" girl was unable to sleep and needed counseling. School viewed that giving people's nickname is considered bully and is a very serious case so those who called the girl \"fat\" were being suspended from lesson. There was no warning to those bullied and the class. Immediately those bullied got suspended from class. School said detention is for minor case whereas suspension is for serious case. They viewed calling name is a serious case.

I think this punishment is not intelligent in handling. It is not long term solution in solving as it will cause those being punished to hate the \"fat\" girl more and no more friendship. This will definitely worsen their friendship. Those bullied said they would keep a distance from her. They will not befriend her as they afraid she may complain about them for any other matter and they will get punish again.

In my another child's school, the discipline master is very intelligent and experience. He handles differently and amazingly. My dd was bullied in school by her classmate beginning this year. Friends telling each other not to be her friend and gave my dd nickname as well. She cried and unable to sleep and also needed counseling. I contacted the discipline master and discipline master said he knew how to handle. Instead of punished those bullied students, he went to the class and explained and educated them. Amazing, immediately no more bully. Those bullied becomes my dd friends and now all can work together happily till now.

The above are my true experience. I find CCHM only know how to solve problem by just punished the students for detention or suspension. There is no other methods. Whereas my the other dd's school, the discipline handled very differently. So the school has lesser problems. They discipline the students differently. Students seldom have detention or suspension. The discipline master uses his true love and education method as he doesn't believe in punishment unless fighting or smoking cos he said he ever lost his student in a car accident so he treasure his students a lot. I salute this discipline master at other school.

    • RE: Chicken essence

I discover that both Hock Hua and EYS chicken Essence do not contain Caramel. Brand Chicken Essence has some % of caramel.

Is it better to drink pure Chicken Essence without caramel?
or it is fine to contain caramel so the taste will be better or sweeter?

My dd joined library as CCA also managed to get A. I think as long as you actively participated and involved in those activities organized by your CCA, should be able to get A.

Cedar girls near mt.vernon too. Excellent feng shui too. 😉

Walking from main road along mt.vernon to Cedar Girls is very quiet and deserted compare to Maris Stella to MRT.

Hi, can anyone share the sch environment there? Are your dd/ds happy study there? How are the teachers?

I am considering whether to select cchm or tkss? Both DS are eligible.

      Thanks for kind sharing.

Both schools are good school. But some advantages of CCHM:
If take HCL at O Level, 2 pt bonus
Also CCHM is affiliated to Nanyang JC, which is a good JC.
      CCHM has a beautiful campus.

      Thanks Louis for your sharing.

Can someone share with me the title of the literature book in secondary one?

      Thanks

    • RE: Peirce Secondary School

      Hi,

Just to share my little opinion.

Dd didn’t do well in her PSLE 2 years ago. We also headache during school selection. We had limited choice so we went to various sch with COP 225 range. We visited sch like Geylang Methodist, Bowen, Mayflower, Katong Convent, AMK, St. Joseph Convent etc. We spoke to teachers and Principals. In the end, we selected Peirce.
Reason is Peirce’s Principal is the most approachable, patience and friendly.
But the main reason is the % of JC eligibility is so high as > 90%. Other schools only 60% to 80%. I was amazed that given student of COP so low in PSLE and yet the school can produce a result of > 90% eligibility to JC. Therefore we selected Peirce.

Now Dd is able to perform well in Peirce and she is happy there as she can get $500 every year from govt for her performance. This encourages her the most. Should she go to other competitive environment, she may not have a chance. She stands out in her CCA and was given a chance to lead in stage. Moreover, she can even selected as Student leader.

Should you need more information, you may PM me.
