Used to owned Asahi Piano U1-AS before. Piano teacher felt the sound is alittle sharp maybe because she owns a Kawai. Kawai tends to be mellow sound so she is not used to Asahi tone.

As for Yamaha U1, personally I do not encourage because friend owned a brand new one and Yamaha tuner cannot help to tune the right sound. I heard my girl played the U1 at Plaza Singapura. It's sound horrible to me. Unless you want to consider U3 or YUS5. They are alot better. U1 cannot bring up the sound you want.

      I'm not a piano teacher.

Because of budget, at the end got my girl a brand new Hailun 133P. No regret so far for Hailun 133P because the sound is rather comparable to Yamaha U3. This is what her piano teacher comment. I brought her to try the piano sound for me before we purchase it.

Hope it gives you a rough idea.
Thanks sushigal for replying, will go check that out! ^^ šŸ™‚

    • RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos

Does anyone have comments on these three piano models:

      - Asahi U1- AS (6 years old)
      - Samick JS-121 FDEP(1 year old)
      - Yamaha U1 (10 years old)

And also which would be a more ideal piano to get?

In my opinion, I would prefer the yamaha U1 because I've not really heard much about the other two brands. But I'd still like to get some opinions before making any decision

      TIA! šŸ™‚

    • RE: All About Dental

If parents are willing to pay slightly more, why not try self ligating braces? It's more comfortable and less painful compared to conventional metal braces. There are a few brands out there: Damon, Smart clip, in ovation etc. (More popular brand is Damon, I did the Damon brand)

I fixed braces to fix overcrowded teeth šŸ˜› was supposed to extract 4 teeth if I did the metal braces, but for Damon braces, the best part was i didn't need to extract a single tooth! šŸ™‚ not as painful and uncomfortable as what my other friends experienced when they did metal braces. No ulcers too. No regrets, it was worth paying a bit more for more comfort and I saved my innocent adult teeth too haha! šŸ˜„

    • RE: Braces for kids

Well it's usually when one's milk teeth have dropped and the Adult teeth have already grown i guess? Its best to consult an orthodontist to find out more. šŸ˜„

You don't have to wait for school referrals, I think you can just walk in to a dental clinic. There are some private orthodontists who provide free consultation for the 1st time šŸ˜„ and you can pay by installments. Price difference may not be that much compared to hospitals. But it is of course more convenient to go to private ones as you can reschedule appointments easily.

      Dreamaurora:
      reiner:

is it the Tr need at least a dip in teaching then qualify to teach eh?

1 Tr - Dip in abrsm teaching n with Trinity grade 8 practical & theory
1 Tr - Dip in Music, Recital cert, with Trinity grade 8 practical & theory

      are they okay??

DipABRSM Teaching is a professional qualification that certifies a teacher to be have working knowledge of teaching technique to prepare students comfortably up to grade 6. So yes, someone who possess this Dip is officially qualified to teach up to ABRSM grade 6. However, this does not mean not having this dip is not qualified to teach; there are quite a few popular and brand name teachers in Singapore who do not possess this certification. So a teacher who has in a Diploma in Performance could still possibly equal or better than the another who has Diploma in Teaching. At the end of the day, most important still have to see the teacher's track record and chemistry with the child.

Yeap well answered and explained Dreamaurora! :goodpost: in my own opinion, if I want a teacher to guide my kid in the long term, I would prefer a teacher with a Diploma in Performance/Recital or above (Licentiate/Fellowship level Dip/ Bachelor's/Master's Degree etc.) Again as what dreamaurora said, it would be important to see the teacher's track record and whether the child can click with the teacher.

Do note, even if you can get the best teacher (in terms of qualifications, track record etc.) but if the teacher's so fierce and demanding, always shouting/scolding, making your kid feel so lousy and demoralised, it will only make the child dread his lessons and in the worst case, lose his interest in learning. This is the last thing parents want to see.

Can you post the HP number & the name in forum so that we can be alert of such irresponsible teacher?

Hi, I just chanced upon this topic and I could have been under this teacher before. If I'm not wrong, she is known as Catherine Ding Ming Jie, and she is known as Mrs Khoo. Her hp no. should be 90783538. I was under her for 1 lesson for Grade 8 a few years back and after the first lesson, she kept postponing the 2nd lesson giving last min notices. So in the end, my parents dismissed her. Before my parents engaged her, she sent a copy of her cert. That's how I got her full name. Hope this helps.
