      Hi,

I do not know about how recent you meant for your BIL colic radiation poisoning. I hope she is okay. Where did she go?

I just came back from Japan, Tokyo in Dec last year. I became pregnant the next month. Now, it worries me if my baby is okay. I better check with the gynea.

But my 2cts of experience=> I will not go there!
Basically, my 2yo fell very sick on the 5th day after the Disneyland and we have to cancel our flight and rebook new tickets to fly back. He was vomiting for all that he ate and had diarrhoe.

Even when we met our Japanese friends, they were not confident of their own government. They mentioned that a lot of Japanese are planning for migration. For them, they are staying put like most Japanese as they do not know where to go.

So I guess, I will not go for the next 5-10 years at least.

Oh dear, you mean your baby was vomitting? Was it food poisoning? Did you manage to establish the cause? BIL did say that vomitting is one of the symptoms of radiation poisoning.

I'll bug BIL when I next see him. He is not the most social guy and doesn't talk or gossip much so I hope he goes ask his colleague.

Yes. He vomited. It was a disaster.
I suspected it maybe the eel rice we ate at Shinjuku.
Even though it was award-winning unagi don. Sigh! :slapshead:
But I shared the same bowl with ds but I was alright. So I maybe wrong.

We stayed in Hyatt and the concierge referred us to a Japanese doctor even though we asked for the hospital. :gloomy:
Well, we came to realized the doctor is a cosmetic surgeon :yikes: when we went there. But in the situation where we cant even speak Jap, we just went ahead with the doctor. Ds was diagnosed with flu from the Jap doctor who prescribed him with antibiotics.

DH and I were very skeptical with his diagnosis.
So we decide to fly back that immediate night when ds condition became worst. When we came back to Singapore, we admitted him to KK immediately and ds was diagnose with food poisoning.

The Singapore doctor just shook his head at the prescribed medication. As parents, I prefer to play safe. Radiation is known to stay in the body for long.
I will not risk my children's health.

    • RE: How to discipline a 2+ yr old kid?

Actually, I have a 2+ yr also. I will walk away and let him throw his tantrums, even if it is in the public. At the start, he can even lie flat on the floor in the department store. I will just ignore. After some time, he will get up by himself when he sees me walk away.

And I will only appear when he starts to find me. It is only then that I will ask him if he knows why I walk away and explain the wrong of his behaviour.

As for throwing things, I will not pick up for him. Let him understand the idea of once thrown, gone forever. And I will tell him I will give away his toys since he wants to throw it away. There was once I really "give it away" (by hiding it) and he knows I meant what I say. To date, he has not seen "this toy".

By the way, I realized hitting does back fire also. Now I only threaten him with the cane or hit my hand hard on the table to produce the loud bang. I try not to hit him.

    • RE: S'poreans to get priority for P1 places during balloting

I am blur. If a PR is a clan member or have association or is a church member, does it means it still have priority over a Singaporean who is a non-church member but stays within 1km?

Is this still called Singaporeans have absolute priority?

Shouldn’t the system be opened to Singaporeans first and then a next round for the PRs, depending on how many vacancies are left over?

    • RE: Presidential Election 2011

Before the clock strike 12, just my take on this.

What do we want from a President? The constitution states the limited power of the president. Yes, it has been reiterated even in the national TV roundtable by Tommy Koh.But, who exactly draw the constitution and can we change it? Can Singaporean has a share to draft or amend our constitution? Maybe our parents were not as educated as us then but look as most Singaporeans now…the new generation definitely have views. Maybe we need a change.

Controlled media in Singapore has just showed us how effective it has been. How it has painted TJS to be aggressive, someone with political agenda. But yet with media, we can see how true TCB is, how honest TKL is in his answer and how prepared TT came.

I guess we should all vote with our hearts, voting for our next generation and our children. We know the 12 years under Mr Nathan has been peaceful, perhaps too peaceful that nothing much change except the competitiveness in the society to vie for jobs, to vie for a space in public transport and even for a place in school. Or maybe it became worst…

The question is…"When will our voices, the Singaporean voices be heard?" If Singaporeans can all stand as one and not be misled with the half-story of our controlled media, our future Singaporeans will then benefit fromthe democracy of what our system can bring. This, our people elected President should achieve this.

Well,we can choose to have another peaceful/ silent 5 years. But I have to take the quote from LKY in GE2011:"Do not regret it for the next 5 years".

    • RE: Recruit tried to swim out of Tekong camp

      cwc:
      jtoh:

Children these days live a more sheltered life. Many are ferried everywhere because parents do not allow them to take public transport, even at secondary school. Some don't do much physical exercises - their CCA in school is chess, mind games, math society etc. Some struggle through yearly NAPFA tests.

Even at boarding, some parents insist on helping their kids to pack up every weekend, some going so far as to bring in maids to help. On compulsory overseas trips, some parents tag along, stay at the same hotel etc, just so they can be near their precious just in case.

How do kids learn to be independent and to develop physically for NS? Not surprising that they have a hard time dealing with it.

Ha ha....now I worry & guilty. My P5 DS has been pestering me to let him go home himself after school everyday. It's either a 15 mins public bus ride + 7mins walk or 25mins walking.....with a damn heavy schoolbag. Mahjiam like a army backpack since the bag is ~20-25% of his weight. Let him get trained up now? Scared he gets too comfortable and next time lazy..... 😉

I am a new mum but I cant help but ask: Doesn't kids keep their books underneath the desk (like many of us used to decades ago)? Why are the school bags still so heavy?

    • RE: Recruit tried to swim out of Tekong camp

I have a hunch it is a defeat of the recruit's mental ability rather than the physical ability that's why he flea the camp.

A decade ago, there were so many talks about newly recruits being fat and unfit. But we certainly do not see such news ( or perhaps the media was better hidden than :censored: ). How do these recruit endure the hardship in the camp then? Certainly, the mental part must be able to take them through...

    • RE: National serviceman needs maid to carry his backpack

I thought it was amusing when I saw this post but thinking for a while, all I can say is...\"KID, you are definitely SWAY to get caught by the nosey parker who capture this and make it into an issue.\"

What about those kids who has parents to fetch them to the army.? They probably do not have to walk to the bus station with the maid carrying the packs but they are no better than this boy. He is just out of luck. I guess.

And talking about uniforms, kids nowadays seems to think they are only pieces of clothe hanging around them. That is why there are smooching photos in uniforms being posted.Hiaz...:stupid:

Blame it on the young, blame it on the parents..one can even blame the IT for being so advanced. This is just a part of human evolution I think. And I think NS should not punish him for the sake of punishing...just make it a rule on what can be and not done...
