Its been a hectic 2 weeks, we are still trying to adjust to morning session. I stay at Lorong Chuan area and the school bus picked my son up at 6.15am. According to my son, when he reached the school at 6.40 pm, the lights in old sports hall aren’t even switched on yet. Requested the bus uncle to delay the pick up time, but he said cannot. So tomorrow i am going to send my son to school and see how it goes. My son has been complaining like many others of being tired. We stay within 2 km fom PCPS but yet he has to wake up at 5.45 am, so ridiculous right?

I also received notification that VB (non school team) CCA will start on 16 Jan from 4 to 6 pm every Wed. We should not have signed up VB as other CCA does not start so late. I chose VB because my son did not join VB sports class. So thought joining VB CCA was a good alternative.

Any parents got any idea where the poor boy can go between 1 to 4 pm? How to ensure that he doesnt run around or cross the road to the HDB shops opp the school? I am beginning to have more and more headache…

I noticed you posted a lot of negative comments about the school. If you are so dissatisfied with the school, who not transfer your child out?

      Why stay and be miserable?

Are my comments negative? I don't think so... if by stating the facts means I am negative and dissatisfied about the school, I think you are being too judgemental.

Btw, we (my girl and myself) are not miserable at all in PCPS and we are defintely staying till she graduates at P6.

I have been reading this thread silently for a long time. Mainly because I have plans to put my little one in pcps and hope to find out more.
While Callie's comments don't sing praises, she has just been sharing her experiences. I don't specifically recall her postings to be putting down pcps.

Even if callie is really unhappy with pcps, To suggest pulling a kid out simply because of unhappiness felt by a parent is unwise. To stay or go, should be assessed from the child's perspective and for the benefit of the child.

I do not know Callie personally nor am I Callie's proxy. sort of \"followed\" her journey from the point her girl was accepted at pcps, to this day. Hence, I am speaking from my opinion formed from her posts.[/quote]I agree that Callie's views are not negative nor thumbing PCPS down We are not saying that PCPS is not good enough for our kids. But what we are sharing here is that there room for improvement in terms of communication. Leaving results aside, the school does not tell us much. As the child grows older, he shares less (or at least for my child). We parents know much more about what is going on from this forum than from anywhere else. Eg. I learn to know more about what getting into Sports Class mean. So views of every parent is respected, whether it is so called positive or negative. Am sure we dont just want to hear nice things but true things, right ?

If you go to PCPS website under Academic Archievment, you will still see PSLE 2010 results under Academic Achievement. I have given feedback to the GO and written my feedback on the feedback form. Now I understand why PCPS doesnt want to update. Am sure MOE has been discussing this for some time. With ref to the post at http://wiseoftheday.blogspot.sg/2012/11 ... dents.html, I agree that one has to solve a problem and not pretend that the problem will go away by hiding the problem.

Talking about parents giving undue stress to pupils, wasn't it MOE who started it first by setting tough Math questions at PSLE, way beyond the level of most pupils? Does the ministry naively think that parents like to stress their kids with endless tuition? Since MOE wants to hide the info, can the govt stop sharing the educational background of their politicians, shouldn't they stop promoting elitcism?

what is the highest PSLE score in Pei Chun ?

      percentage scored > 250 ?

Tried calling the school to ask but the person who anwered my call said he didn't know...

Anyway, got a call from the school who told me that they are not going to reveal this piece of information to parents now. They are doing so in-line with MOE's direction. Period. :stompfeet:

Ha ha that means that the Honour Roll (in front of the GO) with the top student's name for each year will cease to exist wef 2012. I tried asking my son's form teacher for the highest % for the P2 cohort, answer is that the school will not disclose. Honestly, not disclosing the top scorers' names and highest scores does not alleviate any stress. I feel that the ministry is behaving like an ostrich!

Hi vbcouple, I heard the same thing from my son's FT about prefect role. Since he is taking on the flag duties now, I hope he will eventually be one. I feel that this is a good role for exposure..

Irene06, my son having English classes at TLL. As for chinese, we continue our berries classes which we have enrolled him in his kindy days. But feel that exposure is not enough... Still sourcing for good Chinese class. Do you guys have any recommendation?

MummyTang, the art programme seems fun and good. My son likes Art, so he may like this programme too.
      Hi Minmin27

How old is your son now? Does the English class at TLL benefit him ? My son does not have any tuition and am scouting around. He will be in P3 next year. Tks.

This is what I found out from the sports class briefing:

      1. there are 2 sports classes: 3H and 3I. They will move up to 4H and 4I. There is no competition at p3. Practice is once a week from Jan to June. This is because the external coaches are busy preparing the other levels for competition. From July to Dec, practice will be twice a week. For VB, practice will start from term 1 week 2.

      2. At the end of P4, only half will make it to the school team. Those who make it to the school team will join 5G and then move on to 6G. At the end of p4, pupils will be streamed based on academic results. Those in sports class 4H and 4I, if their results are good, they get to go 5A and 5B. Even if fail subjects in 5G, the pupils still get to move up to 6G, they will not be asked to stay back in primary 5.

      3. Come June holidays, practice is 2 weeks out of 4 weeks. Frequency can be twice or three times a week. For Dec holidays, 5 weeks out of 6 weeks have practice. Only the Christmas week is a true break.

      4. Pupil in Sports class will join the coach for training for 2 out of the 3 PE sessions.

      5. Competitions only start in P4. They will play inter-school, zone and then national. At P6, competitions will end around Apr so that the pupils can prepare for PSLE.

      6. From 2005 to 2010, school team went for overseas training. From 2011, they will go for overeseas tournament. In 2011, the school team went to Taiwan together with Principal, Sports HOD and 9 teachers. Trips only meant for P5. Parents cannot accompany and the trip is not free but subsidised. Duration is about 7 to 8 days. So far, they have been to Hangzhou, Xiamen, etc…

      7. For DSA Volleyball for boys, the schools are Catholic High, Dunman High and Chung Cheng High. For VB girls, they are Cedar, Nanyang and SCGS. During tournaments at p6, secondary school coach will watch the tournaments and identify the players. They will then approach PCPS teachers. So far, Cedar take the most VB girls, can be up to 6. Sorry didnt manage to take down the DSA schools for other sports. Once offered DSA, as long as PSLE score 200, can get into the school.

      8. To do well in sports calls, need to be very disipline and good in time management. The school is there to help and will make sure that the pupils’ academic results do not suffer. But parents’ support is the most important.

      9. Once in the sports class, not advisable to take up another CCA. The pupil will not be able to cope.

      Hope the above info helps.
