For nygh, just an update, I was informed last week that my gal has passed the CCA selection test and due to the overwhelming applications for the school, the school will take prob till month end to invite for interview.


So parents can sit tight and know that the wait for nygh (CCA DSA) might need to take a while.

My girl is also applying to nygh DSA via CCA. May I know where you get the info from? According to my understanding, a group of them had already gone for the interview yesterday.

Yes, I think quite a few of the niche sports can opt for DSA route... such as basketball, volleyball... what sports are you looking at?

Unfortunately no, my girl was not selected for the prefect interview. Oh, do you mean at end of P4, there is another selection? My DD was a hall monitor in P1 to P2 but not selected. Maybe her results dropped so cannot be one. Apart from good character, I think prefects need to be all subjects band 1 type. My DD has 2 subjects with band 2. Need to work harder next year.

I agree with lionqueen that many monitors are not chosen. In fact, my DD was so sure that her current class monitor will be selected but surprisingly no although the teachers always praise the boy's work.

When compare with other top schools, I think our school papers (except Chinese) are considered easy already.
Some schools set ridiculously difficult questions so that parents feel stress, must send their children to TLL for enrichment. I think it's better life to be teachers in those schools.. teach less and the kids automatically know because of enrichment. Unlike our school, teachers stay back to give compulsory remedial from P3.

Can we opt out for HCL in P4 or P5? As my daughter dislike Chinese, I am thinking of just letting her do normal Chinese so she can have more time for other subjects. Someone told me before unless the child wants to go to a SAP secondary school, the additional HCL points are useless, very difficult to score distinction too so it is not worth it to spend too much time on Chinese.

Generally, the results will fluctuate quite a bit when the kids reach P5... 10% drop is highly possible. Many band one students might score 70-75 during CA1 and even SA1. For my case, my girl managed to do better, or I would say performed up to her normal standard until SA2.

Yes can opt out from HCL. Until now I still don't quite understand what's the difference between CL and HCL...except that my girl can score 85.5% for her CL but a 60% for HCL. But I will let her continue with HCL because I foresee she will need that subject in sec school ...

I finally decided on playing it safe and getting the samsung note 5, and picked it up last night. Was hoping to wait for iPhone 6s+ availability but it seems to be always not available when i checked. Didn't want to delay my recontract month so went ahead with this. It came with a free chrome cast, but there was an additional S view cover 2 weeks ago - now i know their offer changes every week...

I have the Samsung Note 5 too. It is pretty nice, but suffers from the \"sleeping beauty\" problem where it randomly does not wake up. The screen remains black for between 10s to 30s. Really irritating especially when I need to use the phone urgently. Samsung doesn't seem to want to acknowledge the problem, much less fix it, so I guess I will be selling away the phone soon.

You may wish to Google on this problem... I remember reading some useful tips on solving this \"sleeping\" issue of Samsung Note 5.

For P2 to be selected into P3 Sports class, the child needs to be selected to join one of the niche sports right? Is there only one sports class? Is academics also taken into account when choosing a child to join niche sports? Also, is it possible to join the niche sports (e.g. volleyball) on a recreational basis?

For the niche sports, there is a selection process by the coaches... Academic results will not be taken into consideration. Actually, only P5 got one sports class.... for P3 and P4, I don't think there's any streaming...

As far as I'm concerned, the P2 students will be reshuffled according to the CCA... Because the academic streaming is only carried out during P4. I don't think the school will stream the P2 students academically.

Except for niche sports cca such as basketball, volleyball, wushu and table tennis which will have selection done by teachers and offered to your child, the other cca is up to your own preference. For performing arts, they require audition. In sept (I think ) we will receive option form to sign up for your child's preferred cca.

Maths Olympiad is not cca but your child will be exempted from maths academic support (AS). Also it's a case of the school makes the selection.

Most P3 stay back 3 times a week (cca, maths & English, higher chinese , no science) unless child's cca requires more practice.

Yes lionqueen is quite right except that some niche sports train 3 times a week... My girl stays back 4x a week. Anyway I am cool about it lah, just have to manage their time more appropriately.
