Does anybody know, with the new campus, if rgs will increase its intake for sec 1 next year? This is a question i forgot to ask. I only know they have 12 classes of about 32 students each.

No water issued, canteen stall closed. Many parents, students, guests sit around inside the canteen, feeling thirsty.

Water is the most basic, fundamental human need.

RGS is going green. They have stopped giving out mineral water since early this year. Parents and guests are advised to bring own water bottles. The canteen is not ready and is not in operation yet. School helped to arrange for food catering to students for the last week of school after they moved to the new campus. Maybe the school should have communicated this to the visitors today.

But there are many water coolers scattered around the school. If you asked, the girls would be more than happy to point you to one nearby.

There are many parents who are not so eng to post, and many more who find the discussions in ksp too 无聊 and don’t bother to post. They just sit there, read and laugh as some jokers posted. But now that they feel the bra check is a big issue that concerns them, so they voice out and post. That does not make them fake.


Maybe the word ‘traumatised’ used by one of the parent is a bit exaggerated. But we can’t deny that some girls maybe affected more than others in this case, even though they are not being inspected. Maybe the Sec1 girl is timid and her friends scare her and tease her that she maybe next? We are not the girl, we do not know how she feel and why she feels that way. Just like the Sec 4 girls, many were checked, but why only one cry? Maybe she is more shy and sensitive to touch and to people looking at her bra, while others are not. I know this case is overblown and I know many parents with girls in nygh that said their girls won’t mind, as the button is on the shoulder. But don’t forget that there are girls from more conservative family who mind.

Yes, I also agree that the girl maybe timid and introverted hence dare not say no to the teacher. What I was sharing here is my personal view, personal parenting style. Even if one breaks the rules, they should receive appropriate punishment. They can be booked. They can be made to stand under the hot sun in the parade square. They can be made to wash toilet or stay back. As long as it adheres to school rules, as long as it is appropriate, go ahead and punish them. I am all for schools to punish the students if they break the law. But if the check and punishments have crossed the line and made them feel uncomfortable, unsafe, they should say no. If my girls are introverted, I will keep repeating and reminding them they have to stand up for themselves and say no if they have to. Learning how to say no is even more important for timid and introverted girls than extroverted girls. Again, this is my personal parenting styles, you don’t have to agree with me. Similarly, some parents here seem to think that the school can do anything they want to their dd when they break the rules, so as they learnt a lesson. Again, this is your parenting style. There is no right or wrong and it is not for me or anyone to condemn you.

Clearly, the teacher has crossed the line, that is why she and the school apologised. I also understand it is not easy to be teachers these days and she does sound like a nice and caring teacher from the comments and reviews. I do feel for her, especially reading all the very nasty comments people said about her in all the fb comments. All fingers seem to point at her. I do hope the nanyang community, especially the parents and students can show her the support in this difficult time.

Kudos to the nygh girl who tirelessly fending off the school and teacher by patiently and maturely answering every comments and attacks made. At least she didn’t ask fb to check every IP addresses or block the site!

looks like if you are not so eng to contribute thousands of posts in ksp, you are not real. but you will be accused of being a person who is too eng to create multiple fictitious accounts to stir things up. :rotflmao:


ksp is not the official media channel in sg and there are limited audiences. if one really wants to stir things up, there are many ways to do it. why so 无聊 create multiple accounts just to post on ksp nygh forum and get bombarded by the very few very eng but very narrow minded individuals who think they represent the nanyang community and are the only ones qualified to speak and have an opinion?

sorry I don’t mean to say the girl is the victim in this case or who is right/ wrong. Just a general referral to cases where girls/ women are violated by their bosses, supervisors, boy friends etc. and the importance of teaching them to stand up for their right and say no if they feel it’s not right or uncomfortable.

I am not a nygh parents. Sorry for writing here. I heard about the incident from my girl and out of curious just reading up the forum to find out what happened.


Not here to comment what’s right or wrong or to offend anyone. But one question raised by a parent/ forummer raises my attention. Why didn’t the girl or the classmates say no to the teacher? They are sec4 students, not sec1 girl who just entered the school and easily intimidated.

I think as parents, the only way to protect our children is to teach them to say no to advances that make them feel uncomfortable, even from people of authority or people that they respect or love. We have heard and read a lot about workplace harassment etc. To prevent them from becoming a victim in the future, we have to teach them to stand up for themselves. Say no, be firm. Ask to speak to higher authority if they need to and don’t be afraid.

yes, that is my understanding. 2 years ago classes seem to be by dsa domain, mix with gep girls and psle high scorers. But this is no longer the case this year.


The P often talked about how sensitive girls are and do not want any girls to feel ‘I am not in the top classes, therefore I am not as smart.’ (she said used to hear some girls saying that) Glad she is walking the talk and leading the ‘top’ schools in doing away with the streaming.

Rgs seems to be making great effort in integrating the girls. No more gep classes or classes by dsa domain. No more pure higher chinese classes (all chinese, no racial integration). Girls from the same primary schools seem evenly distributed across the 12 classes (no more classes dominated by girls from same primary schools).


The school believes that all rgs girls are high abilities girls and all should be treated the same. I think this is a great move.

Heard that RI/ HCI and NYGH still keep their gep classes. In fact, NYGH’s gep classes has gotten even more elitist - it used to take in psle high scorers too, but no longer so this year. The 2 classes are strictly for gep girls only and the class size is small vs other classes.

there is no first class or last class in rgs. in previous years (dd going to yr3), they are mostly grouped by dsa domain and in high number classes. mainstream and those got in via t-score are mostly in low number classes. this year seems like dsa girls are in low number classes. Your girl coming in via t-score mainstream?
