if the tutor charges sky high, has attitude problem and despises the child, then of course can sack him/her. with so many tutors out there, parents have to make sure tutors can deliver professionally.

In my humble opinion, paying anything more than $200 per month per subject for any subject at Primary level is excessive. I'm just happy you think it is money well spent from your point of view.

I also though expensive at first but then my hubby point out that other centre we visit like learning lab and concept math and visible math all $280 to $360 per month for weekly 1.5hour lesson and all of them class size like very big about 10 to 15 children in one class . My hubby said they earn so much but how to teach well to so many children in 90minutes?

At first we worry pay for teacher zhou tuition so much! But my boyboy feedback say teacher zhou teach his students separately like one to one tuition. Teacher zhou told my son that every student is different so he teach at the pace they can learn so end up all the students in my boyboy class doing different chapters depending on how fast they can master the work. Also my boyboy math not so good so he is using different material from his tuition mate who is in gifted moe class.

So my hubby said he rather send boyboy to teacher Zhou at least we know this $440 a month is money well spent rather than sending boyboy to big tuition centre class and dunno whether teacher good and also dunno if the teacher can monitor my boyboy work in class with so many students. My hubby also said teacher zhou like to talk to him after class to update him on boyboy progress an my hubby felt it is a personal touch. :rahrah: lucky we didnt take too long to think about price becoz teacher zhou classes all filled up by november!! :scared:

I was sourcing for private tutors and came to realise that $50 per hour is a norm for any tutor who is not a trained teacher. An undergrad or sahm also charges $50 per hour. If it's for secondary school tuition, that's the lowest I ever enquired for one-to-one. I have called tutors who charge $85 per hour for one-to-two and $80 for one session of 1.5h for a group of 15. And it seems they are not unique in their charges. I also know of at least one primary school tutor who charges $55 per hour for a group of 12, so I thought your sahm tutor charges cheaply, in all honesty. You are just used to the fact that she charged cheaply, so when she increases her fee on seeing that she has been effective in teaching your kid, you can't accept it.


I don't see it as an exploitation. She offered you a price. If you don't think it's justified, you are free to walk away. If your kid needs her, then it's up to you to decide if she's worth the price.
