phtthp:Nope. Unless you are in O level class. And if you do not score O level higher chinese B4 and above , you will need to take H1 Chinese in HCJC though MOE stated a pass is D7 and abovecan a Sec 1 NYGH student opt for Normal Chinese, don't take Higher Chinese in Year , all the way to Year 4, even if student had taken and passed PSLE (HCL) before, since NYGH is an IP school, go directly all the way upto Hwa Chong Junior College, hence no need to apply the 2 bonus points from HCL ?
or is it because NYGH is a SAP school, therefore it is compulsory to take Higher Chinese, from Sec 1 onwards ?

This is a open forum - there is always 2 sides of the fence. You may choose to doubt one’s intention and I am free to share. I have a kid who is affected but you choose not to believe because most kids are not . But that is your freedom.Eerrh, don’t forget the indignation stems fr one parent with sec 1 gal claiming traumatized but in effect, the accounts & apologies by sch thereafter affects only a sec 4 girl. The parent with sec 1 gal was checked by sharp KSP parents here lah coz there was no Sec 1 incident of trauma as claimed. Most NY parents here trying to calm excitement down & the incident shld hv quietened down unless parents need engagement shld approach P & not stoke anymore as the sch had apologized & P handled with email.
It’s very obvious if u were to read deeply & connect that dots. Check the flurry of numerous responses fr new members lah. lee_yl did not bring up unsubstantiated issue. Fake news are easily done if ppl create multiple accounts to stoke the fire & hv fun at KSP mums’ expenses. For all u know, it cld be a male pretense.
Just wanna share an opinion wrt school girls’ following school rules.
In every organization there are rules, just as h’hold. If we wanna work in an orgn, hv to abide by the rules as day we sign empymt contract, all that company expect have to follow, except those inhumane or human harassment stuff. So, doesn’t it follow students who accept to get into the sch, irrespective top or neighbourhood sch, hv to follow sch rules?
My girl is expected to comply with sch rules. Not following sch rules shows defiance & as a parent, I wld be embarrass & need to counsel her.
More so, in the case of sch uniform designed white with red sch logo and there is more to just following sch rules - there’s a lot of culture, history and decorum the sch wants to teach & be recognized for. IMO, a child can experiment how inner garments wld look in sheer white or under opaque or whatever material at home or on non-school days/hours but once in sch, hv to toe the line despite disdain.
OT: I used to hv a secretary who wld wear short, short skirt, short blouse that shows belly-button, with differing colored bra (black under white blouse, red, green, orange & pink) with colored straps showing. I showed her company’s rules & regulations. She was defiant & continued. Maybe I’m not a good boss, but it’s a learning institution where we regularly hv professors fr all over the world visiting. After my 3rd written warning, I showed her the door with her last pay-check & a month’s notice compensation for her to do whatever she so pleases.
I think s’time back I was sharing in ano thread abt girls wearing short shorts that shows the cheek of their bums in public area & I noticed a grp of dark-skinned laborers staring thro’out. Eventually, I walked towards her & whispered she might need to cover her back with her sweater coz I don’t think that’s the kind of attention or audience she’s trying to reach out to. Seriously!
I’m not sure abt other mums & dads, but my girl will not defy sch, institutions or organizations unless she is her own boss & don’t take orders fr others. Don’t you think the issue wrt to sch meting out good discipline & checking for compliance is what we hope our kids will learn? Do we want our kids to show attitude to authorities w/o regard for respect? It’s deeper than just that colored undergarment that’s hiding an attitude. It shld be the sch’s bz to check.
Female sch authorities shld find a way to enforce sch rules & teach values & correct attitudes fr this learning point. Again, I might be an old foggey, but others don’t hv to agree with my sharing.
That Rule I understand. My older girl who has graduated has followed them , even though it is not stated in the handbook then. I am not contesting against that rule.
My main point is no physical contact should be allowed. That is all I want to highlight and hope the school could make one extra step to safe guard the girls.
Unfortunately this thread is not able to take feedback. You may like to consider closed door thread then. -

Yes - I agree with the point of defending yourself/ learn to speak up. School is a good learning background to do it - just like answering a quedidon don’t be afraid to give the wrong answer , you will learn something from it.I am not a nygh parents. Sorry for writing here. I heard about the incident from my girl and out of curious just reading up the forum to find out what happened.
Not here to comment what’s right or wrong or to offend anyone. But one question raised by a parent/ forummer raises my attention. Why didn’t the girl or the classmates say no to the teacher? They are sec4 students, not sec1 girl who just entered the school and easily intimidated.
I think as parents, the only way to protect our children is to teach them to say no to advances that make them feel uncomfortable, even from people of authority or people that they respect or love. We have heard and read a lot about workplace harassment etc. To prevent them from becoming a victim in the future, we have to teach them to stand up for themselves. Say no, be firm. Ask to speak to higher authority if they need to and don’t be afraid. -
RE: Nanyang Girls' High School [*IP]
I applaud Mdm Ng for her immediate action and clear explanation in the email. But it really does not stop me from asking more questions.
We are all parents here who wants to share and learn from one another. My take away from this incident is why no girls dare to speak up ? It may not happen to my girl directly but we all have kids and feel for that particular girl. Even if she is 1 out of 1600 , it still warrants a concern as it violate her privacy.
So I talked to both my HCI and Sec 1 girls , both dare not say no to the teachers if it happened to them too. Have it occurred to you why they dare not say no although they have every right to ?
Neither you nor me represent all parents in this school , I am speaking from my own experience via my girls. There is always 2 sides of the coin and we are all free to state what we think. You can move on if you want but it is my prerogative to ask for that one extra SOP or actions to ensure no repetition.
PS. I am asking not because I do not hear my kids version. Actually like what Lee YL said, I was expecting an official version from sch. With 1,600 kids, we may have 1600 versions or less. During Sec 1 PTM , Mdm Ng mentioned she reads this forum too so I hope she picks this up. Thank you -

This is my girl’s orientation week.
Tbh, are you really the parent of NYGH? If you are, you should know what was done few days ago. And btw, why would you say your Sec 1 girl traumatised? I don't understand. If your dd is Sec 1, all the girls were in the hall few days ago. I will not elaborate here further unless you are not the actual parent from the school.chiclil:
Have not been active as my elder daughter has graduated but it is really upsetting to be welcomed by this incident for my Sec 1 girl. She is traumatised in this first month.
When the incident is taking place, no other teachers around or students around ?? Why nobody stopped this teacher ? Physical contact on kids are to be taken very seriously. No teachers should be allowed to touch the kids in uniform check.
Measures must be taken to ensure this teacher will never do it again. Without knowing why she does it .. how do we ensure she won’t do it again?
Our girls are being assured. CASE CLOSED!
Please bear in mind. She just joined the school and still trying to very hard to adapt into a new school and all girls environment.
Though she is not being spot checked, with two talks in a row in two days, she is stressed. Every kid is different. So please spare your judgement -

RE: 2014 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
Our school for the first time, my dd came back light heartedly after every paper with confidence.
It seems quite different from past years prelim papers. For a moment, I thot MOE stepped in to make schools not set such difficult papers.
Now that I see this thread, it seems there are some schools still having difficult papers. -

KateCam:
If this is the case, then all affiliation has to stop not just NYPS.I feel that it is very unfair. My DD loves everything of NYGH, she's just so into NYGH. But she didn't get CO, or even WL! She's devastated and she cried to sleep yesterday. As a mummy, I was heartbroken.
But I told her that she will still have chance during PSLE. She seemed like she had no confidence in herself and was so down, not bubbly and happy like her usual self.
She is top in her school, and have very good results for all subjects since P1! She can project her voice well also. I don't understand why she is not chosen.
I also don't understand why NYGH must have this affiliation process for NYPS students. It's very unfair for girls who really like NYGH. What is so good about NYPS girls that they can enter the school at just 252>? Then as some KSP said earlier, they like RGS. Then NYGH is just a substitute. Why are they still \"volunteering\" to be substitutes for RGS?
Again, what if my girl have 259 for PSLE, she still can't get in NYGH. And the NYPS girls that have 252 can already get in? It seems really unfair. I hope this affiliation will stop.
No offence too NYPS girls' parents.
I know parents who registered kids in primary schools based on affiliation to secondary school, they think at least for 10 years they dont have to worry. Dont have to think about the placement of school by PSLE results. NYPS parents and kids are just normal to want that security and insurance too.
Would you want a system like in Japan , whereby you have to take entry test and interview even for kindergarten right up to university ?
By the way, katecam , do your best to encourage her. There are more setbacks they may meet in growing up. Tell her to transfer it to strength and do well for PSLE. Even if she is one or 2 marks away from PSLE, go for it and appeal. My colleague's daughter is shy of 1 mark from COP, she appealed and got in. Impossible itself is a I 'm possible. -

There was a discussion about raising the COP for affiliation but it was not concrete. So we should be safe to say above 250.Manlim008:
If a NYPS girl receives a CO from NYGH but wishes to go to RGS. Decides to turn down the CO after PSLE. But PSLE results above 250 (below COP for RGS). Decides now to apply to NYGH through S1 Posting. What could be the outcome?
I think that if she select NYGH as the first choice, she will still be able to get in via affiliation.
I thought the COP for this year increase to 252? I may be wrong.
