      Hi,

Am also given a place in SJ for my son. Decided to take up the vacancy but had problem with sending him home @ 11.15am. Any parents staying around Bukit Timah area, with kids studying in SJ willing to do a car pool? I can take the morning trip.
      HI hmtt,

There are a few school buses going around there... Which exact location is your place along bukit timah?

Hi parents, my child recently received a spot for next year's nursery slot at Harding Road . I was wondering whether I could get some feedback on their Chinese curriculum. Also, my child has mild speech delay and I'm not sure whether the teachers would be receptive. He is currently attending another pre-school at the moment.

      HI hi...

Congratulations ! This is good news as SJCK always has a long waiting list...

The school did face some challenges regarding their Chinese curriculum before... But i understand that the school has recruited a group of China teachers, all of them qualified with pre school certifications, to improve the Chinese curriculum of the school. I heard that they have been very active and enthusiastic in designing the materials and teaching modules..

Personal experience, no doubt my kids were not very fluent in their Mandarin, but they never had any problems in their P1 Chinese (at nyps).. So i am not overly concerned...

1 of the reasons i sent 3 of my children there is the teachers. They are very dedicated, and all of them regards the children by their names. I am very sure your kid will be well loved by his/her teachers.

Perhaps i can suggest, you highlight this to the principal Ms Jacqueline Chung before school starts so she and the staff can pay extra attention on the progress of your child....

Wishing you a beautiful journey in SJCK..

      :congrats:

      Hi all…

Many thanks to the kind parents in taking time and effort to talk about the school… It’s not common and not the most talked about school, thus making info gathering more challenging… I really appreciate all feedback…

I understand its something new being in boarding school at such young age, I’m just wondering whether cases of bullying exist? What about kids misbehaving in hostel? BGR issues… And the challenges the school faces?

      Many thanks

      HI All..

There will be a parents' Town Hall meeting tonight at 7.30am @ St James' Church along Leedon Road, I understand all are welcomed to attend as issues regarding the lease would most likely be discussed...

Hi everyone, I am an old boy of SJCK (1978). A first time parent very confused with the education system now.

I am keen in enrolling my daughter to SJCK. There is the PN, N, K1, K2. If I am to enrol her into PN, does it mean that she will get automatic entry into N, and subsequently into K1 and K2? Yes, auto promotion unless you and school feel otherwise

Or once she finishes PN, I have to re-enrol (subject to waiting list) her into N. And when she finishes N, then register (subject to waiting list) for K1 K2? Dont think so.. Auto progression..

Please advise this blur daddy. Thanks
      Hi Ken

      Your answers as above..

Hi All… Many will feel let down and disappointed… Rest assured Pastor Richard, Ms Jacky and the school are doing a lot to preserve the school…

Let us channel our attention and energy to joining the movement in appealing to the authorities to let the school continue, be it at the present premise or another location…

Stay tuned for more updates… Meanwhile, hope all of us will continue to pray for the school and support the school and its staff…

believe its state land & govt taking back the land for re-development....

my gal just started N2 this term...... she would be able to graduate fr SJCK in 2014.....

reported in the papers that the Principal mentioned abt laying off manpower next year... wonder if teaching standards would be compromised.....

Don't think so, i believe what she meant was as they have to reduce the classes gradually, naturally they have to let the staff go too... Otherwise they will be losing $$ everyday..

      why close down ?

The lease of their current operating premises will be due and the sch doubt they can afford to pay the rental as it will be an open bidding. Though they can look for other site, but it will be too ex, considering the number of classes they have..

Just to add on, the School has been actively on the look out for new premises, but it would be impossible to get a reasonable place without raising the fees from what they have experienced in actual bidding exercises.. One recent bidding exercise they went to, another private (profit) school submitted a bid 3 times of what SJCK could afford.. So how to compete ?

While there are already parents coming together to help in appealing to the relevant authorities, all of them were not interested to really assist..

So we are now faced with the prospect of 500 kids, 97% of whom are Singaporeans/citizens, many from low-middle income families, being school less end of 2014..

Does anyone know if parents are able to get their kids in the kindergarten years without enrolling in pre-nursery or nursery?

      HI Grapevine

I presume you are referring to SJCK K1/2..

I believe it's easier to get your child in during those 2 years, as some children migrate overseas or to another school for various reasons... I got my 2nd in only when she was in K2, but she loved it.

      Hope it helps..
