      verykiasu2010:
Could anyone kind enough to share how was the DSA interview conducted by HCI ?

One to one ? Many to one ? One to many ?

What kind of questions do they ask ?

Also, what are the reasons for choosing between HCI / RI - for and against ? Kindly please share with this verykiasu 2010 paprent

      Many thanks in advance!
If I recall correctly it was 2 or 3 interviewers to 1 student. One of the interviewers is a senior student. Questions like what gummy bears are made of, why the student picked a particular one out of 3 available chairs to sit on for the interview.

HCI was my son's preference and I respected his choice even though I had my reservations cos it is a good school and it's so near home he walks to school in under 10 min- a big convenience to both him and me.

Thanks xhxie! Any idea how students are selected? What grades must they attain? And how are students graded? I know that in RI 80% and above is 4.0, in ACSI 80% and above is 7 points n with 6 subjects and 3 bonus points a student can score a max of 45 points in ACSI. Can anyone tell me more about HCI’s scoring system? Also, I heard that those who do well consistently during the year are exempted from year end exams. What are the minimum requirements? TIA

Can anyone tell us more about HCI’a programs? There’s a lot of enlightening information about RI’s RP and how kids get selected for RA kn sec 3 but I’m totally in the dark about HCI’s programs. Would appreciate if any HCI parent or student can enlighten us. TIA

Thank you all 😄 I'm a SAHM to 3 boys, 1 in sec 1, another going to sec 1 next year, and the youngest doing his PSLE next year.

Hi Everyone, Today's the first time I've surfed this website and I decided to join as a member after reading a few posts. This looks like a great community and I hope to be exchanging ideas with all you wonderful parents out there 😄 It's super stressful being a parent, and it's great to have a community like this to look to for ideas and comfort.

I felt that the school culture and the program suited him best amongst the top 3 boys’ schools. Now I have people looking at him and saying he must be an ACS boy - kinda like that, don’t really know how to explain. He’s very sensitive and reflective and yet sociable, and has his own opinions about many issues, and the IB calls for them to make their own stand about lots of issues. He loves to write as well, and that’s something that you need to do a lot in the IB. It’s a well-rounded program, and that’s what he is - he has very wide ranging interests. It was partly a process of elimination as well - I felt that HCI and RI just wouldn’t suit him.

Ds2 will be in sec 1 HCI next year. After buying all the books I realised so many are optional, including ALL the Chinese n math books. Now I wonder if I’ve wasted money buying them. Anyone knows if these books will be used at all?

I should be happy my son’s going there but I don’t know why I wish he’d chosen RI or ACSI. Only consolation is it’s so close to home he can walk to school. I hope it will turn out to be the right choice for him- he was adamant on HCI even though almost all the boys in his GEP cohort have chosen RI. Anyone with positive experiences in HCI who can allay this mom’s apprehension? Ds1 is in the ACSI IB n I was positive about it from the startn still think it’s the best choice for him. Just hope this is the best choice for ds2. Perhaps only time can tell?
