Dr at NUH advised us to do mri n genetic testing. Haven’t made up our mind. MRI need sedation, not sure if there is a risk, dd is 2 years n 3 month. As for genetics test, understand that even if can find something, in most of the cases, there is no cure, while may impact dd insurance plan.

Anyone have done it for the the child? Can share the experience please? Thanks.

Hi! We have done MRI and genetic testing for our son. MRI came back normal while genetic test came back positive. You are quite right abt the impact to insurance, we cldnt get insurance coverage (not even hospitalisation plan). Think it is best to consult friends who are agents and settle the insurance first b4 gg for the test.

You are also right that currently there is no cure for genetic disorders. But the test result somewhat provided a closure, in terms of confirming what was the exact issue, as we had spent months in the dark not knowing what was wrong with our son and how we cld help him. With more clarity on his genetic disorder, we have a better idea of the prognosis and what to expect, and we managed to get in touch with support group (families with kids having same genetic disorder) to access more resources. Hope this helps!

      Thanks for the sharing.

Thanks for your reply Slmkhoo and Esteema.

My dd is slow in both gross motor and fine motor, not sure abt other areas yet. She is coming to be 15 months, not walking and is not able to pincer grasp. She is currently attending monthly PT at Nuh. Agree that as parents we need to engage more with the kids and spend more time with them to explore, both my hubby and I are trying our best to do so.

As for brain training, I am referring to the brain developmental course provided by some private Centers, such as Singapore Brain Development Center. We just would like to do whatever we can to help dd to catch up or reduce the gap (Guess most parents with delayed children can understand the feeling). So would like to see if any parents have brought their kids to such course and if the kids can benefit.

I can't comment on these training courses as I've never really looked into them. I have a special needs daughter (Aspergers and dyspraxia), and we did everything ourselves (long story). What really worked was us spending a lot of time with her, getting her to practise skills at her level. Since your child is having therapy, you can try to replicate those activities every day at home to reinforce what the therapist does with her every month. My daughter didn't walk till 18mths. I can't remember about princer grasp, but in general her physical skills had a noticeable lag. But she mastered all the necessary skills eventually, even if slower than average.

Thanks for sharing! This is encouraging.

Yes, we follow closely the instruction given during PT to motivate her to cruise more, hopefully she will be able to walk soon.
