I was recently "introduced" to the school during a BBQ session as I was set on my DD attending CHIJ (Katong) in 2014 for a while now. What now make me consider this school was the distance from our home in Pasir Ris. A lot more shorter, faster and easier than wriggling thru the katong/Martia road traffic every morning. Reading a lot on the forum, some good experiences and some bad. But overall, if distance was not a factor, which would you choose - CHIJ Katong Primary or CHIJ OLN?

I am most interested to hear about the values taught at OLN, how is the new principal, Ms Debra Saw, academic focus or lack thereof about Maths and Science. What about focus on Chinese?

My daughter is only due to register for P1 in 2013 and I am also considering CHIJ Katong. I read all the thread and the common themes seems to be that the school provides a balance between academic demands and building the character of the student. Could any parents with kids still in IJ share how the school and its Catholic based education has help to shape your child cope with the crazy demands of a results based society focusing on exam success and fantastic grades?

I am indeed shocked that this thread is up two years ahead of time but its timely too as I’ve begun researching into the primary school options for my daughter and am learning a lot from all your sharing! Thank you very much!

I stay in Pasir Ris but my two closest schools are Meridian and Park View which is within 1km but I am hoping for Pasir Ris Primary which is >2km from where I stay. Have applied to be a parent volunteer but then again…its always going to be balloting when the time comes and the chance of success will be very slim for those outside 2km.

You guys reckon that i should seriously consider moving into the 1km zone for better chance?

Any advice will be appreciated.
