    • RE: P3 Exams

Congratulations to all whose DD or DS scored wonderfully! For the rest of us, let’s try harder! 😃

    • RE: How to improve section B for primary science?

Many children do not know what are the key words unless the key concepts are explicitly taught. Most 'Explain' questions are testing on at least one key concept. It is the duty of teachers to let kids know what the key concepts are.

Example, for Heat, there are only 3 broad key concepts.
      1) Heat flow from a hotter place to a colder place,
      2) Objects expand/change state/increase in temp when they gain heat. (vice versa)
      3) Good conductors of heat allow heat to flow through easily.

If kids know the number of key concepts to remember for each topic, it will be much easier for them.

    • RE: Q&A - P3 Science

Concept Tested here: Mould needs air, warmth and water to grow.

Clearly, Option A: Food in refrigerator has no warmth.
Option 😄 Food in air-tight container has no air.
Option E: Although this is not what the pupils have learnt about the conditions of growth for mould, but this is a common-sense solution to prevent mould from growing.

Answer for this question: Option 3 (A, C and E)

Increasingly, PSLE has shifted to test on common-sense questions rather than strictly text-book based syllabus. We have to adapt. 😃

    • RE: P3 Exams

P2 to P3 is truely a jump. Especially when there was no Science in P2 and Science in P3. To make things worse, although the topics tested in P3 Science are few, but the process skills tested are plenty! Not many pupils can handle questions that require observing, comparing, explaining, deriving conclusions, understanding charts and graphs, fair tests,… and so many more skills are tested in P3! I’m currently trying to compile a set of notes for these essential skills and share them with fellow kiasuparents free. Kudos for the spirit of sharing!

    • Any Science tuition centres that offers hands-on activities?

I am looking for a centre which is more well-rounded and include hands on activities or even experiments. Any centres or private tutors to recommend?
