RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)
My son will be starting Yr 1 next year. How’s the traffic along Dover Road to the school in the morning? Is it heavy?
Am thinking of just dropping my son off along Dover Road East and he can walk across to the school so that I can just make a left turn from there towards North Buona Vista. -

RE: Travel: Taiwan - Taipei
Blessed Homemaker:
Thanks Blessed Homemaker. It is doable but do note that you will be spending a lot of time on the road and waiting for public transport as I understand that the trains do not run on close intervals.
My sis went 2 years ago, wanted to cover a few areas but she only managed to visit Yeliu and Jiufen.
If you decide to take the bus from Taipei Main Station, the bus interval is 15 - 20 mins and the journey takes around 1 hour 30 mins to Yeliu. From Yeliu to Jiufen/Jinguashi, you need to take a bus to Keelung, then change to another bus to Jiufen/Jinguashi, that's another 50 mins journey. To get to Shifen, you have to take a bus to Ruifang station, board a train on Pingsi line.
We are fine with the first part of the journey from TMS to Yehliu. We are thinking of taking the taxi from Yehliu to Jinguashi to save time. Once we are in the Jinguashi/Jiufen area, think we will be ok. We don't want to engage private taxi as we want to experience the Pingxi railway also. Is it easy to catch a taxi from Yehliu to Jinguashi?? How much will it cost?
Thanks. -
RE: Travel: Taiwan - Taipei
Anyone done 1 day DIY from Taipei to Yehliu>Jinguashi>Jiufen>Shifen before? Can share your experiences ? Thinking of early start around 7.30am to cover those places cos don’t intend to hire a private taxi tour.

RE: DSA 2011

Just adding my 2 cents worth. I think all parents should just calm down. On the MOE website, it says you SHOULD receive by 2 Sep not you WILL receive by 2 Sep. Let's not get too worked up over this. If you have not receive any notification from NJC by now, the outcome is clear. So we should just encourage our sons and daughters to continue working hard towards doing well for PSLE, instead of working ourselves into a tizzy over what should or should not have been.
This is taken from the MOE website (FAQs for DSA Sec)
17. When will I know the outcome of my application to each school?
You should receive a note from the school informing you of the outcome of your application during the Selection Stage by 2 September 2011. The letter will clearly state if you have been given a Confirmed Offer, or been put on the Waiting List, or that you are unsuccessful. If you have been placed on the Waiting List or given a Confirmed Offer in at least one school, you will receive a School Preference Form on 24 October 2011 after your PSLE examinations. You will have to make your preferences (maximum of 3 preferences) from 24 to 28 October 2011.
Agree fully that they have flouted the MOE regulation since the rejection letters were not even sent out yet by yesterday 5/9/11/.
I see stones flying my way....better run for cover!! -
RE: DSA 2011
RSS:
Long story with NUSH. To cut the story short, DS camp was messed up, someone in his group broke a beaker and there were other issues, so he was given a no. We appealed against the camp's event and were offerred an interview to assess ds suitability for the school. However when the interview offer came, we already have RI and ACSI results. We have thought through and we prefer ACSI to Nush so if NUSH is going to be our third choice, then no point going to the interview so we declined the interview offer. In fact the interview is to be held this afternoon.
Hi RSS,
Congrats on the CO for ACSI.
Is your son from any of the ACS feeder schools? My DS is also going to ACSI, so our DSs may be in the same class. Good luck for PSLE!! -
RE: DSA 2011
ngbrdad:
On the contrary, those were the ones given the COs and more likely than not, they will be taking up the RI or NUSH offers instead. That's why ACSI was appealing to those who do not intend to take up the CO to let them know early, so as to free up the places for those on WL.
Quite a fair bit of the ACSP GEP only joined for the GEP and not real ACS thru and thru.
Maybe these are the ones given WL. -

I think you've hit the nail on the head. The chairman of the ACS board, in response to a question during a briefing 2 weeks ago, mentioned that ACS GEP boys would have no problem getting into ACSI anyway as they tend to score well for PSLE.
Maybe it's similar to CHS where the school would rather give away it's DSA places to boys from outside schools, especially if they see that those boys, based on their past academic records, would not have a problem getting a good enough score to enter the school with affiliation \"bonus\".
