Hi. I have been giving my boys haircuts since they were 4yo ever since the elder boy cannot sit still at the hair dresser. I use the Philips hair clipper designed for kids which comes with straight scissor & hair cutting technique CD and bought a pigeon hair scissor for layering. My skills are limited but so far they are happy watching cartoons from iPad while I cut their hair. The good thing is they can go straight to bath after the hair cut since I set up everything in the bath room and just wash away the mess. Saved a few hundred these 4years since I have 2 boys and I can trim their hair as & when it’s untidy.

RE: Townsville Primary
Hi. I don’t have a timetable for the student care.
From my observation, it is breakfast before 9am follow by worksheets (we purchase for use in the centre) then go lunch at canteen about 10.30. After which will change from student care t-shirt to uniform before going for class.
No bath nor nap.
Studentcare is beside the school canteen and just started operations beginning 2011. So everything is nice & clean.
I am happy with the school too. Homework are usually given over the weekend. -

Hi mng_kl
Its $240/mth .. (incl. meals)
I believe its the same for school holidays whether you put your kid in the student care or not.
There is also a yearly admin fee of $50 I think (cant recall how much i paid)

Hi monster mummy
So far my son seems to enjoy school. When I ask him why, he says he can choose to buy his own food/snack
Hi little red bull
Yes. Having a student care in the school compound makes it so easy for working parent like me. Just drop off am and pickup after work. Don't have to worry about those various timings for extra curriculum activities as the center staff will bring them. And they're open during the school holidays.
From what I see, the center also conduct lessons & worksheets. So at least my little one are getting some extra coaching than idling at home.
I feel that the center staffs also helps in adjusting my P1 to the new school environment. -

I am so happy to know that the school had changed the timetable for the new term 2. All subjects are now group together.
Other than organising some academic enrichment lesson, the school had also made effort to organize informal parent-teacher session. My son's class teachers also approach us at times to provide some updates. -
RE: School timetable
Chinese and math are different teachers.
You raised a point about MT. If the majority of Chinese students stays in class, I don’t know how are the other MT classmates move around. -
School timetable
I am concern about how effective is learning after looking at my P1 son’s timetable this week.
All core subjects are broken into separate half hour session every day.
Eg. On fri starts 1/2 hr Math, 1/2hr English, 90 mins Chinese, recess, 1/2hr English, 1/2hr PE, 1hr English then back to 1/2hr Math. And
Tue: 12pm - Math
12.30 - Chinese
1 pm - Math
1.30 - Chinese again.
I can visualise teacher rush in, class settle down, teach for 20 mins then prepares to rush to another class. comes back later trying to recap where she left.
While I cannot imagine how the teacher can teach effectively under stress for time, I am also worried if the child can ‘connect’ what is taught between breaks. Isn’t it also a waste of time ‘running’ between classes.
Any parent out there with similar scenario? -

I can imagine teacher rush in, class settle down, teacher teach for 20 mins then prepares to rush to another class. comes back 1/2 hr later trying to recap where she left off previously.
And school starts 2.30 on we’d. That’s 2 1/2 hours less to learn.
The teacher told me it’s manpower issues but did not provide any solution or assurance.
Seriously, I’m starting to have doubts about TVPS.
Hi parents, care to share about how the upper primary are doing? -
RE: Townsville Primary
Understand in some other schools that students are given a short test before allocating them into classes.
How does TVPS allocate pupils into classes in pri 1? -
