    • RE: How do you educate your child on savings?

maybe an encouragement or advise that will motivate your child in saving? since they still could not appreciate how saving could benefit them since they still don’t have any obligations, I’ve read somewhere that parents could match the amount their child sets aside in a day. e.g., they’re able to save $10, tell them you could also give him $10 so his savings will then become $20.

can go low carb diet. it’s really effective and then eliminating your sugar intake. there are sugar subs which are really good at making your food or drink taste sweet but with zero calories

Are your centres charging cheaper rates or not charging at all during CB?
the tuition I got for my daughter offered a cheaper rate, it were her friends who told her about it, since that time they offered a free class. but I guess they weren't able to push through with the offer so they had it charged with a cheaper rate.

enrichment/tuition sch right now may also have been affected since I see majority of the students nowadays are on self-learning, their parent's income must have been affected by the pandemic.

It may not be fair because they have to exert extra effort making their presentations, but we are all in this together. so I think tuition schools must offer cheaper rates.

    • RE: Experiences with Home Based Learning

I agree with Cloud cloud. it is really amazing to personally witness how independent they have become in terms of learning, while when they were little ones, we were their teachers.

My daughter, who is now on Secondary is also making most of her online HBL enrichment/tuition. She is an introvert, so HBL by online streaming has worked well for her. the tuition also mails us hardcopy of worksheets to keep track of her progress. HBL was never an issue for her because she loves staying indoors, even before this pandemic.

      Bad study habits to avoid

      1. Study without a plan. Set a goal for what to study and how much to study.
\t2. Procrastinate. Plan when to do the work, as early as possible and in small parts.
\t3. Spend a lot of time but achieve little. Find the productive period.
\t4. Distracted by social media and phones. Turn them off.
\t5. Study in front of TV. Study in a low traffic area away from distractions,. Not in bedroom.
\t6. Burn midnight oil. Study beforehand and review over a longer period of time.
\t7. Not asking for help. Review with your child periodically.
\t8. Memorise not understand. Use a mindmap to get a better understanding.
\t9. No schedule. Use a planner.
\t10. Disorganised. Use folders and make effective notes.
11 Forget the mistakes. Learn from the mistakes, don't give up.[/quote]
Thanks a lot for sharing! I have noted your tips as HBL have been unproductive to my kid's study habits.
