RE: How to prepare for the KI test?
What did you get for EL for O levels?
If it is anything worse than an A1, I wouldnβt suggest KI.
GP from what I hear is difficult enough.
I believe you canβt take KI until your grades are deemed suitable for moving to KI. -
RE: * Temasek JC (TJC)
There is a chance he might/might not.
Sometimes, their cut-off point go to a partial 6.
Meaning, only some with a net aggregate of 6 pts get in.
This is advantageous to your child as his net aggregate of 6 is aided by his 4 bonus pts (probably from HCL and CCA grade).
Eg. A student with net aggregate of 8-2=6 is worse off than a student with net aggregate of 10-4=6.
Basically, if 2 students get the same net aggregate, the distinguishing factor would be their number of bonus points.
I have to mention this but I am pretty sure I will get into TJC becoz my net aggregate score is 5. That is well below the required net score of 6 to get into Science stream. -
RE: GCE O level result release on 9 Jan
bankiasu:
TKGS 51 percent has L1R5 of less than 10. One girl achieved 10 A1s but the media seemed to have missed it.
Are you certain of this information that you are passing out?
It cannot be because only 64 people got 7 or more distinctions and about 120 people for 6 distinctions or more. There is 340 people approximately.
Don't forget that distinctions means both A1s & A2s.
The mean L1R5 is 11.0.
Yes, there was 1 10A1s girl but there was no media probably because she is a foreign scholar.
I am certain of this because I was one of the students that received their O level results. I got L1R5 of 7 (raw). -
RE: GCE O level result release on 9 Jan
I got L1R5 of 7 (raw score)

A1 for EL,Chem,Bio,Econs,Comb. Humanities -
RE: Tanjong Katong Girls' School
Actually, there is 1 chance/instance where you can change schools.
BUT it must be at the beginning of the year.
Go to the General Office, I think at the least that the people working there have some capabilities. -

Helping--Hand:
Urmm... BTW, heard the principal is changin'.
Do you know who is the principal? Mrs Phyllis Lim
Do the principal (current) talk about her and how is she looked like?
And, may i ask about some trival matters...
1) Is the food in the canteen nice & @ reasonable price?(i had not been there)
2) For the Symphonice Band, How many days we need to be in school for practise?
3) (very trival sorry  ) Is TKGS girls wearing black or white shoes? White for Normal and Black for Prefect
4) How are the teachers in the school?
5) Tell me more about the school~
Sorry to be asking alot of questions....
Thank YOu :rahrah:

I heard that Mrs Lim is leaving us this year after 6 years of doing nothing
(at least IMO).
She was bad. She looked like a nice person but I hear that she is unreasonable and as a result, had driven many good teachers in the school to look for greener pastures.
The school during my 4 year stint, had undergone numerous switching of vice principals. (3 I think)
1)
The canteen is littered with bird droppings, worn wooden benches.
The selection of fare offered is sad. The price I think is reasonable as I am not poor.
2)
Hahhahahhaha!
Your life will be gone! XD
The only CCAs that you can get maximum results for the least effort is Drama CCA.
BTW, the CCA system has changed so it may not be applicable to you or your child.
Clubs will be very lax but will not offer lots of CCAs opportunities.
Uniformed groups in TKGS is seen as not glamorous & IMO does not seem to offer many CCA opportunities as well.
Other performing arts (except Drama) & sport CCAs require your full effort (I am sure it will be taxing).
Read my post on CCA to learn more about how I managed to get A1 for my CCA.
3)
Black shoes = For Prefects Only
Whites shoes = every student (with the exception of prefects)
4)
Which school does not have teachers?
The questions should be the quality of the teachers.
IMO they sucked. The school is biased.
Assuming you are terrible at a subject like F9 for geography for Prelims
(exam just before O levels), they will give you the worst teacher available for that subject for study sessions/remedials.
My class geography teacher was teaching the worst class of failures.
I was from a non-triple science class and thus, my class deserved a lesser skilled teacher. That's the way TKGS thinks it ought to treat their students.
Only students they deem \"got hope\" then they will put all their eggs in their basket.
Otherwise, they will not bother to invest good teachers for you.
Thank god I had tuition, which consequently put me in the A Class students study sessions.
5)
What more would you want to know?
The picture I have shown you of my former secondary school (TKGS)
is clearly a bad one.
I would opt to get my child out of the school and appeal for a better school like TKSS instead. -
RE: Tanjong Katong Girls' School
I am a former student of TKGS, just finished O levels.
Thus, technically, I am an alumni of the school.
I want to warn you about TKGS.
It is a band 2 school and the average L1R5 of the cohort
before mine is approximately 13 points.
The school will take advantage of their students'
time and effort for their own gain.
Good schools (or at least seem to be) tend to take their students for granted and think that they are \"self-starters\".
They use it as an excuse to give poor/little teaching & guidance to their students.
The girls are shallow and immature. I would have liked a co-ed school but due to my father's poor judgement as well as my indecisiveness when I was 12 costed me dearly.
4 years of my life wasted like that. *snaps fingers*
The \"Syphilis\" principal god-knows has contributed s*** to help the students.
Take your pick. It may be a common trend among all such secondary schools in the league of TKGS.
However, I strongly do not believe so.
TKGS is a place you would want to avoid. -
RE: Singapore vs. Hong Kong: Which Is More Expensive?
I have to bring in PAP as any major issues in Singapore are either directly or indirectly caused by them. Whether they are aware of it is another matter.
I think tuition is a government tactic to kill 2 birds with one stone.
1) Make students work harder and perhaps become academically better performers
2) Create employment.
[Did that ever cross your mind?]
However, I don't find it an ethical choice to make. Perhaps it was accidental with the culmination of 1. high human influx = too many people for too little jobs and 2. Low quality teachers in public school.
I simply had to say this as it is a theory that I have come up with that makes A LOT of sense. However sick/twisted it may be, the logic is there.
I would love to hear any arguments against me. I will do my best to prove my points.
^_^ Debating online has helped me in my grasp of English. I don't think many students do that hence they are too inept to do argumentative essays. They prefer narratives as they are supposedly easier to write. They are so....shallow and linear. -
RE: Singapore vs. Hong Kong: Which Is More Expensive?
Besides, flooding Singapore with foreign trash hardly helped to decrease something called INFLATION. Many Singaporeans are feeling the pinch. I thankfully ain't one of them.

The government's efforts are hardly enough to meet their needs.
Nevertheless, I feel that this kind of treatment to a country's citizens is a total outrage.
PAP is ignorant of so many frustrations Singaporeans face with their policies. For e.g. They allowed SMRT to become private. I think that was one major mistake since transport is a necessity for people to go to work and back. Look at what SMRT did! They raised fares DESPITE getting profits. Greed holds no boundaries.
