Hey GrandMaster, what do you know about how the education system is like?

I strongly believe that it is the education system's extremely flawed nature is why
all of us are not excelling. If I am wrong, explain to me why Singapore has a flourishing tuition industry?
I mean, it the schools' teachers are so damn awesome, why need to bother with tuition?
Unless the teachers are so damn pathetic, why is there a need to fork 200-400 a month on a subject?
Don't go and protect PAP @ss for this. This is the blatant truth.
No report card is better than this. Common sense says so.

It is easy to get A1 if you really try. :imcool:

Singapore is without soul.

Though I dont get out much, I know that other people in other countries have a damn life as compared to Singapore. Most Singaporeans are simply cooped up in their narrow perspective of life and dont bother to look over what other people elsewhere are doing.

Let’s just take the Education system for example. My sec school (cannot be named) gets PRC students that are the cream of the crop and drop them in our classrooms. As you would imagine, this is much to our dismay. Academically speaking, they are whooping our @ss.
I resent that the stupid MOE decided to demoralize us in such a backstabbing manner.
"Very good" for cultivating nation pride. Pffft.

For the sake of explanation, I will try to put them in the simplest words possible and simplified examples.


1) Get a good CCA
Meaning:
-Fits your persona (Sendentary ------> Hardworking)
-Fits your level of commitment (Couldn't care less --------->Involved)
-Allows you to compete/participate for an award (a must)
Range of CCAs that for criterion: Performing Arts/Sports
(Anything else is unlikely to work out well unless you are an overachiever and can win awards for your school without a team)

I advise new students to try their luck in CCAs that have irregular cycles of competitions. This allows you to catch your breath and rest for a while
(you are going to need it, trust me!)
For example, drama. I personally think Drama is the most slack of all the CCAs. Choir girls need to practise to keep their voice in tune. Musicians need to practise to keep their skills over time. Actors...simply need to read and memorise their lines as well as maintain their dramatic disposition
(which they already do so on a day-to-day basis)

2) Get a good rapport with students then teachers
If your peers like you, your teachers around you will think that it would be wise to put you as head of the pack as you make a cohesive team. Automatically, teachers will know you are doing something right and follow suit.

3) Get your own CIP hours
Do externally done CIP work. School CIP tends to be skimpy on the hours and heavy in workload. Find a wolunteer organisation and work with them.
Easy to do with the Internet.

There is an element of luck in getting the best of CCAs. It just depends on how you calculate your risk taking. Keep your head ahead of the game and you will survive.
It is a miracle that I got an A1 yet I can't say it is not all my effort.
For the new students, you are low on luck as I heard that there is a new CCA point system that is harder than mine. It requires leadership points for you to achieve the highest level. (I guess it is the equivalent of an A1)

Hahahahaha! U wanna hear my story?
I had no idea of anything about the LEAPS system till I was in october 2010, when I was about to finish sec 3. I completed 60+ hours during the december hols to get a total of 80+ hours. Little thanks is given to my CCA which only awarded me 20 hours for all my 3 years of hard work and ostracism that I bared with. (60+20=80)
As I have a geog elect position, I am going to get 100+ by the end of this year due to the extra 20 hours they will give me. Too bad! I still get away with my 2 bonus points!

So children, what have we learnt today?
Lesson: When you enter secondary school, beware,beware,beware...
You are in for a treat!
Don't be like me when I went in innocent and naive as an angel and get stabbed in the back on numerous occasions, esp if it is a girls' school.
It is not good for your heart or soul.

*BTW: One of the reasons why I hate my school is that there is a great disparity btw ppl with leadership positions & ppl without
(E.g. A person with no leadership position is likely to stay that way as a person who already has one is deemed more capable and already has a humongous heap of leadership positions) How fair is that, tell me!
Anyways, I am glad that this is my last year here and am keen to sprinting out of the school gates on the last day of o-level exams!

I got an A1 (25 marks exactly)

Remember, all you need is 20 cca points to have 2 bonus points. you need about 7-8 cca points for at least 1 bonus point.
I will tell you how to achieve 20+ cca points in my next post.
