Gifted Education Programme: Integrated Programme

The Integrated Programmes (IP) have been implemented since the beginning of 2004 to provide clearly university-bound pupils a seamless secondary and junior college enriched education. The pupils proceed directly to the GCE ‘A’-Levels (or its equivalent, such as the International Baccalaureate or school-based diploma) without the need to take the GCE ‘O’-Level Examination. The time “saved” by not having to prepare for the GCE ‘O’-Level Examination is used to develop pupils’ intellectual curiosity, encourage them to undertake research work and provide a broad-based education that is more in tune with desired real-world competencies.

The IP are currently offered in 11 schools. These IP schools offer their pupils multiple pathways towards their respective pre-university qualifications. They have the flexibility to develop curriculum best suited to the needs of their pupils, who can now optimise their secondary and junior college education pursuing enriched academic and non-academic curricula in greater depth and breadth.

Of these 11 schools, 7 schools offer School-Based Gifted Education (SBGE) to cater to the intellectually gifted. They are:

Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)
Dunman High School
Hwa Chong Institution
Nanyang Girls’ High School
NUS High School of Maths and Science
Raffles Girls’ School (Secondary)
Raffles Institution

The other 4 schools that offer the IP are:

River Valley High School
National Junior College
Temasek Junior College
Victoria Junior College

In August 2010, as part of an initiative to provide more choices and opportunities to different groups of learners, former Minister for Education, Dr Ng Eng Hen, announced the expansion of the IP to 7 more schools in the near future. They are:

Catholic High School
Methodist Girls’ School
Singapore Chinese Girls’ School
St. Joseph’s Institution
Victoria School
Cedar Girls’ Secondary School
CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School

To my understanding, there are 2-3 GEP classes in the first 2 years of the ASC(I) IP program. What I mean is that ACS(I) DSA application process is different from RI & HCI. There are no separate selection process from GEP and Non-GEP students and ASC(I) did not mention how many seats are for GEP and Non-GEP. DSA application to ASC(I) IP program is simple, just need to fill up the application form, write a personal statment and take HAST. Interview only when necessary. It is the same for GEP and Non-GEP students.

If u apply DSA to ACSI's IB programs & got selected...u will join the yr 1-4 pre-IB courses ( but if u didnt meet the req, u will be transfered to o lvl track & students from express classes who perform excellently will be a ble to join pre-IB classes)...

the actual IB programs starts at Yr 5....I m good in explaining...it's better for u to check their website on IB for more detailed info BUT they do have \"GEP\" program esp it's one of the ex-sec schs for GEP students to continue theirs gifted education b4 it became an IP sch like RI/HCI etc

I've checked the website, no mention on \"GEP\" class. Only that they take in 180 students for \"IB prog\", ie under IP. So those students in \"GEP\" prog, not necessary in pre-IB prog?
the pre-IB prog which leads to yr5-6 IB programmes is the one for GEP students and those high ability mainstream students. ACSI differs from RI/HCI etc in the way they donot offer traditional GCE 'A\" level but IB diploma...I hope tt makes sense...at the end of the day...like RI...they will have a good mix of GEP students cum mainstream students in the same class studying IB prog

I think there r a lot of surprises for this yr RI DSA!...some with less than 80% got CO & some got low 80% got WL/rejected....so really dont know what's the selection criteria....some kids fall under the \"talented\" or \"all-rounder\" category by many parents' standard...but still got rejected...kinda scary right 😞

Hmmmm was there anyone with GEP SA1<80 give CO ?
And above 80 rejected ? That will be really strange.
So far only heard of above 80 with WL

yup 😓

Yap, this is what I've told him. To work hard now if he wants to join his friends. & I can see that he's putting in effort. But they're dragon babies. Think their cohort of boys are more too. So maybe more competitive.
Sorry for my ignorant. If ACI does not have GE class like HCI & RI, then why are they consider as one of the IP sch for GEPers?

Nebbermind/jtoh: there's no confirmation of IB (International Baccalaureate) until the end of Year 4. The COP for non-affiliated entrance to ACS(I) is about 255. The DSA does not mean automatic IP (Integrated Programme), since the DSA is for talent and the IP is mainly designed as an academic programme.

Does getting a DSA CO at P6 into ACSI mean that you'll be placed into the IP classes? And of course subject to your performance, you can be re-streamed into the O level classes?

Entry into the IP classes for ACPS and ACSJ boys is also about 255 as I understand it.

If u r selected under IB, the child will place under something like preparatory IB classes. If u cant meet the req u will be pl inder o lvl track & vice versa....

they may state tt COP is abt 255 but given the relatively small intake & also the performance for each cohort....255 is merely a fig for gauging I think 😄

u mean all sec 1 shares the same curriculum?

I was given the impression that they do very diff stuff even from sec1, but it's possible to switch beteen 'O' and IB before sec4 depending on results.
ACSI offer IP (lead to IB in yr 5/6) & O lvl track. During the open hse, they actually encouraged us to indicate tt we will choose O lvl track if not selected under IB as they said there is higher chance to switch to IB later on if the child perform well....

If u feel paiseh, wait a little longer say till end of Aug (just my guess, can call up to find out exact date, when I was there for PTM in Jul, saw them packing up) when bookstore moves from its current location to next to the cafe nearer to the main gate. I assume u feel paiseh walking into the Yr1-4 canteen where the current location is.

Hi...u mean they r now located near JC block?...so we should get uniform & PE attires b4 regn day & leave the rest be done on regn day har?

btw...can wear normal white socks or not? tks 😄

Not sure if they have relocated yet. Haven't been there since PTM. They do have longer, thicker white socks with RI logo. But white socks will do. The thicker ones quite uncomfortable, according to DS.
:thankyou: for sharing 😄
