Pen88n:

During the NUS High talk, they showed a slide about number of students doing university modules. From the slide, it showed that more than 50% of their year 6 students (I remembered the number was 90+ because my DS commented that was very high based on their yearly cohort of <160) actually take on university modules! Very impressive!
Seriously...I must have slept thru the presentation :snooze: ...or i m already senile :scared: ..dont recall abt this piece of info  ...

Better have a few cuppa b4 going to the tea reception tomorrow

That's why I say that there are likely to be more students struggling at the higher levels at NUSH compared to other top IP schools, because of NUSH' accelerated programme.

huh?!....u mean all nush students have to take the accelerated prog har?

NUSH is a specialized independent school, as are SOTA and Singapore Sports School. They're for those who are very talented in their fields. And yes, everyone in NUSH does an accelerated programme in Math and Science compared to the other schools. A few exceptional students even do university modules.
orrhhh...ok...gotta find out more tomorrow lah...tks šŸ†’
My friend's dd failed to get into NUSH via DSA a few years ago. But she did well enough at PSLE to secure a place. She enjoyed her first two years at NUSH a lot, especially all the practical lessons in the laboratories. She is now in Year 4 and struggling. She is not the only one. And these include those who got into NUSH via DSA.

I believe these cases happen in all top IP school...NUSH is not alone lah

Didn't say it doesn't happen elsewhere. Just saying what I know to be true of a specific school in response to parents' posting that if their kids were not successful via DSA they would reconsider sending their kids to NUSH, even if their PSLE grades allowed them to. However, given that NUSH is a specialized school with its accelerated Math and Science programme, it wouldn't surprise me that there are more students having a tough time in the later years compared to other top IP schools which are more broad-based in nature.

Having said that, there are a number of brilliant students in NUSH who thrive in the school's highly accelerated environment and continue to surpass their teachers' expectations.
....but not all students got to study the accelerated one right? just like RI...only some are selected to join RA programme right?...i m still blur lah hahaha
