RE: Beacon Primary
tauruswhite:
Thank you concerndad..
I contacted the operator school bus, unfortunately no route from bukitbatok to beacon.
My husband trid the following route: bb-mrt bukit gombak-mrt choachukang-LRT bangkit-walk for ard 300m, it takes ard 45 minutes.
A bit troublesome, i feel pity for my kid, he has to wake up very early then.
Anyway, despite of the distance and troublesome on the transportation, we are still happy and excited to enroll our kid to beacon. Hope that we can make friends with parents from beacon.
@dalila: there will be an orientation for P1 this saturday, 21 Nov. Hopefully you have been contacted by school regarding this coming orientation.
The registration start at 8am and the event will be until 1pm.
thanks, we missed the orientation.
Are you still looking into transportation options?
I have found another student that will be going from our neighborhood (or rather, he found me). We might look into getting a private service. We are looking into finding more kids on our route. The price is a bit steep though, around S$400
my girl will be in 1-8 -

RE: Beacon Primary
we were just offered a place at Beacon too. We will be traveling from Jurong East. I have no idea how we will do that …
Did P1 orientation day already pass?
What is the extent of the school bus service? We are some 14 kilometers away from the school.
We plan to visit the school on Monday to register. -

Does iron consume a lot of electricity? Sorry I am blur. I thought only air-con and water heater (the tank type) use a lot of electricity.
Off topic... How about electric kettle? The one that boils water in 3 minutes? Does it consume a lot of electricity?
It depends on the appliance you are using. I like my iron to produce a lot of steam and in order to do that iron needs to use a lot of electricity. Not all irons are the same.
If you would like to know how much is your iron using, just look on the label. Mine is between 2200- 2600W. My small electric grill is 1680-2000W. Typical standing house fan is 45-60W. My dryer is a bit older and cheap, so it's around 2000W and that's less than iron. Usually, dryer is used for approximately same amount of time as iron would be.
Air con is 4500W :siam: -

Thanks, Adoncia. I suspect so too.
I don't iron anymore, stopped as soon as I moved out of my mom's house :boogie: (she still gives me a hard time over it though)
4 hours many not be enough. I have a family of 4 including myself, 2 DS and DH. Piles of clothes have to be ironed everyday. I cannot do without a helper. So to me I dont think 4 hours is enoughAdonciaTang:
Hi everyone,
I am considering getting a PT helper once the contract for my current FT helper ends. HR-issues with a live-in maid apart, the cost savings from using a PT helper will very much depend on how much work the PT helper can achieve on a 4-hour a week basis..or if not, and she has to come in twice a week.
I have 3 kids below the age of 6, so it's a fairly insane volume of laundry plus ironing on top of the regular cleaning of the flat.
Is 4-hours a week reasonable for a household of 5? How much can she really accomplish?
Grateful to hear your views and thoughts/experience on this.
Many thanks in advance!!
I put wet stuff into my second-hand dryer, make sure I get them out still warm, hang them on a hanger and they are good to go. From time to time my hubby's shirts need to be ironed just a little bit in the front and in the back if I put too many of them into the dryer. Same goes for my son's school uniform. Stuff looks unwearable at first, but as soon as it cools down it's iron-perfect.
My dryer was S$200 and it uses less energy than my iron (2000 vs 2500). :please: -
RE: How long does your kids' school shoes last?

What is the price like for Neckermann shoes and Ramax shoes?
neckermann is $20
I found a pair in my DS size at the Childrens Place at the Jurong Point mall yesterday, only one pair again. It's hard to find shoes in his size, it's like every other kid is his size too, and it was all sold long time ago. -
RE: How long does your kids' school shoes last?
little patrick:
me too.Hi
I went to their website and saw 3 types of shoes, Raymax , Comfortmax, Promax . What is the difference and which is the recommended.
My DS has very bad habit of wearing school shoes like slipper since P1. He does not take care of his shoes and all his shoes are \"out of shape\". His shoes only can least him for 1 Term. Last week just bought him Neckemann, hope this brand can least him longer.
I have a boy too and his shoes last him less than one term, we used 5 pair last year.
I also bought him a pair of Neckermann shoes. I like them a lot because they are a lot thinner/narrower then any other pair of shoes I have seen so far, so his foot doesn't move left and right in it. He doesn't have a narrow foot but all the other school shoes are ridiculously wide (beside the canvas type, but no way I'm buying that). Unfortunately, they only had one pair in his size, and I was ready to buy as many as they had. They had a temporary shoe sale at the IMM.
So if anyone knows where I can buy more Neckermann school shoes please let me know. -
