    • RE: 2020 P1 Registration Exercise for 2021 In-take

Hi everyone, my daughter is born 2014 and PR, we live in Ocean Park (siglap). We were thinking for Opera Estate (1-2km) but with the cap in PR it will be very difficult. Our other options are a) Haig Girl (1-2 km): I heard holistic approach and relaxed but school bus pick up will be quite early (6:40) or b) Ngee Ann (0-1km): few of my daughter friends from kindy are going there but I heard is quite academic and competitve (for PR standard maybe not for local 🙂 ) .

So what you recommend (assuming we have a good chance for both - which is yet to be confirmed): would you go to a super near school (walking distance) where your kiddo have friends but might me stressful or a more far but more relaxed? I do not want CHIJ Convent school because I am jewish and I want to avoid a religious school (even if I know that there are many people from different religion but I feel odd that my daughter will have do do something different all the time). Any wise advice? What do you think of both schools? Also as PR what would be my chance for 2C in both?

    • RE: Haig Girls'

Hi my daughter is PR non chinese speaker and stay 1-2km. I wanted your kind advice 1) do you think any chance this year 2) how are the teachers and how is the stress level? 3) Is there a school bus to siglap (and if yes what time pick up). 4) if you were in doubt about a girl or non girl school and you decided yes are you happy with the decision and why? I wanted OPERA Estate but with the cap in PRs I am considering Haig Girls (I have three daughters so should be good).

      thanks a lot

Hi Hendon, good point I did not meant to say that other religion will not feel comfortable, it is just that I prefer not to go to a religious school. Thanks for the advice

Yes we are in River Valley. What is SMPS? CHIJ i think will not fit because we are Jewish as a religion and i think my girl will feel strange to sing religious song. I understand that even if you do not have to pray, naturally everyone does. Is that correct? Thanks for your reply

    • RE: Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

Hi everyone my daughter is PR born in 2014 and we have the following options for 2020 Jan starts (and we do not have a car):

1)River Valley: <1Km but no chance for PR (walking distance)
      2) Zhangde 1-2km: last year few chances for PR but not sure this year (7min by taxi or 20 muin by 1 bus +400 m walk)
      3) Alexandra 1-2km: I understand not many chances –> am I correct here
      4) Cantonment 1-2km (8 min by taxi/28 min by bus + 700m long walk)
I am looking for an holistic school that looks also at the character development and not just academic results. I could see last year Cantonment I like the vibe + they start a bit later but their classes in P1 can be up to 40 kiddos. What do you think about Zhangde and Alexandra? How do you suggest me to approach it?
Welcome any suggestion to a non Singaporean mums trying to understand this complicated system! thanks a lot
