    • RE: All About Teaching Values

Any mom here experienced your child (p1/p2) lying and what would you do to stop it? Eg of lies - said finish homeworks but havent done, push responsibilities to friends/ baby sister etc.. I admit I usually work long hours, dont have time to check her work everyday, and easily lose patience but Ive tried it all - talked calmly, explained the bad habbits, cited stories about liers, punish (not cane) by cut short tv time etc Only lasted for a while before she start lying again 😞

Can anyone help? I felt really bad about it and self blamed a lot too. Tempted to stay home to spend more time with her as she seemed picking up all sorts of bad habbits after going pri school but then it also mean lost of income. Headache! Any advice is appreciated!

ash_boo, mine too!!! ask to describe anything in school, it’s either I dont know, or I forgot. Yesterday gave me a "better" answer - I stand far from teacher, can’t hear clearly. GOD! hahaha

How to train them so they can memorize activities in school and go back tell us? Are they really so forgetful or blur/not concentrate?

      Satine:
      Dear Desperatemummy,

My son is in P1 too. I am also a FTWM and sometimes I will reach home at 9 plus. I think the important thing is to set routines for your child.

      Jia you!
Thanks Satin and ash_boo for sharing.

Satin I think it's very good suggestion. My girl doesn't have any routine yet. I will set one for her soon starting today 🙂 we dont speak Mandarin at home to her either so I will start her on Chinese class hopefully could help.

      Let's jia you together!

      breezy,

Is Lucas your son? He seems a very smart and confident boy. well done boy and his parent.

My girl just started P1 for 3 days. I starting to feel stress though my girl still new and adapting. I felt she is not well prepared for the new environment. I worry I dont have enough time to coach her as I’m FTWM usually reach home around 7, by the time after dinner & wash up, both of us are tired and I dont have enough energy/ patience at this time of the day to teach her or monitor her work. I tried to ask her what happened during the day, what she learnt, how her new friends, but she is not able to tell me (said I forgot). Is that normal? I worry about her study, whether she’d get bullied in school, bad influenced in school etc…

Can working mummies share experience how you helps with your kid’s study and growth thru school?

      Thanks much!

Thanks breezy for your response and kind wish.

I personally prefer a principal who focus more on balancing between study and other activities like art, music, rather than just to put lots of stress on the kid just to increase the exam/academic result. I dont think we should judge a school performance by the PSLE results.

      hi qms,

Though I do not have to justify to you, but I want others here to know that we have been in Singapore for 15 years. We’ve contributed to Singapore economy, built our family from scratch here, and considered this place as our home. Decision to convert involve many considerations, P1 registration is one of them but not deciding factor. I dont think its big enough an incentive for people to give up their nationality.

If you really want to judge and look at it from that aspect, I think you are also judging thousand of parents who are putting in different kind of efforts and went to great length to secure a place for their children at their school of choice, moving house, renting house, doing volunteer, etc… Are all these lame moves?

      Hi phtthp

Thank you for your advice, I will approach Mr Heng. Today I called MOE to ask for assistance to update my daughter status on MOE online system (I tried to register her online for Phase 2Cs now), and was told that I could bring the documents to the school, the school can help to register her as citizen. If this is true, then the Principal of APS did give me false information when she told me if MOE system is not updated, there is nothing the school can do…

I’d like to close all the discussions on my case here. I do not want to create a controversial topic to invite more unkind comments. while we still have to face with the disappointment and distress of securing a place for my daughter, the last thing I want to do is to argue in here. To mummies who gave me words of encouragement and well advice, I thank you very much and glad to know you here.

Yes 31 jul i shown the in-principal approval, means pending completion of some procedures. And 2nd Aug i inform d school ICA give me apptmt to update status on 5 aug. both were not accepted.

Previously application for citizenship usually take 3-6 months. Now it took much longer, didnt expect that. But upon approval, usually it took 2 months to complete procedure n we took less than 1 month with ICA assistance. They understood we need to catch the P1 registration dd.

I dont think MOE could do anything now, pretty much a done deal. But it can look into this n prevent such incidents for would-be citizen. I also want to verify if this is a school decision or MOE. They told me they consult MOE but were not able to quote a name.

Thanks Dino for your kind words, nice to know you here too!

      Hi Chef

Thanks for ur advice. But you probably don’t understand the sacrifies that we went through, gave up our citizenship and went through many escalations and distress in order to get the status updated on 5 aug. Should I be put together w other PR who didnt have to go thru all these? And I do not blame ICA, they tried their best to fasten the process but there are system constraint. On 31 jul when I register I have ICA letter that her status updating in progress but it’s not accepted by d school. So who is not being considerate n helpful here?

Anyway, I don’t want to cry over spilled milk. After all these encounters, my trust n hope with APS management is no longer there. And I don’t want to share here my experience in details when I talk to them, there was no sincerity at all. Im not saying this because I couldnt get in, some people are sincere abt helping even though they cant help… Just personal feeling, no intent to discourage other parents here…Will move on fr here.

Thanks qms and Dino for ur kind wishes
