I quit also because of the formulas involved which i can’t remember myself. Especially brothers, neighbors rules etc. Mind blogging and frustrating. Anyway, my kids are older now and I feel whether abacus training do not help. There are so much things to learn in maths. Anyway, this system is fairly new in Singapore , wonder if it is proven.

    • RE: CMA Math - Discussion

MY eldest girl who is in P3 now was in abacus in K1-K2. I would say abacus was useful only for say P1. In later P1 and P2 when she had to do proper workings for her maths problem sums, she did not have the habit of providing workings so I had to ‘unwind’ her abacus training ! And now that she is P3 going to P4, her CMA abacus skills is almost rusty or forgotten. Anyway, how often people will ask you to do the big arithmetic sums mentally in adult world.

Interestingly, 9 of her friends got into GEP and I asked around, none of them was ever trained in abacus. Kumon probably one or two for a short period of time but ALL are avid readers. So for my second kids, no abacus training and interestingly, her maths is almost full marks in exams, better than my eldest cos she is more cautious and meticulous. Sometimes, I wonder how much we are into all these preschools trainings that we overlook what is most important for our kids.
