Ok, now I'm confused. P1 has no higher chinese? Only streaming in P2 for higher chinese?
What if the kid is very good with all subjects except for chinese? Go to lower class?

Sorry, my mistake. I meant to say that there's subject banding for HCL from P2 onwards. P1 to P2 is en bloc. And there's HCL for P1.

What I figured out is that in P2, even though everyone takes HCL, those banded into the better HCL classes will have additional items such as moxie.

ohhhh BETTER HCL.. :scared: that's new to me!
look like chinese in PH is the ultimate? Other subjects seem secondary...

BTW, what did you mean by P1 to P2 is en bloc? :?

Thanks for sharing!

I'm in the same boat as you. Have never read a single Chinese novel all my life until recently. I'm self-teaching myself the language now and have progressed to reading 晚报, which I realised is full of 八卦新闻.

In case you don't know this, there's HCL streaming in P2. So if your child is streamed into the higher classes, that's good. If not, no big deal anyway as that means that she has more time to beef up on the basics.
Hello everyone,

Like to join in this network since my DD is in P1-8 next year!

P1-8 is a very special class in PH. I observed that usually the parents of this class are very involved type. Both E3 & php's dd were formerly from this class too.

hihi Dion,
I'm happy to find another parent whose child is in the same class as my DD - P1-8 😄 Welcome here! Will send u a PM later.

Mark,
Didn't know P1-8 has so many famous alumni 😂
I would like to be a very involved parent come next year, but but but, I find it challenging even when I imagine a tired mom after work trying to coach a tired child after school at night.
Hi Joyfulhands!

Yeah! is your DD your first child too?
Mine is, so I'm kinda lost now. kekeke

Hello everyone,

Like to join in this network since my DD is in P1-8 next year!

I'm excited & at the same time scare... Not sure whether she can cope in such a good & challenging school. I'm a working mother so do not have a lot of time to coach her.

Any advice on how to prepare her?

:welcome:

I think the emotion you're going thru is understandable. You know the Chinese adage, 船到桥头自然直 is very true. Everything will fall into place naturally, as long as we don't fret over the small stuff.

From your post, I sensed that you're worried about the lack of time to coach your child. If time is a premium, then imo we should do the task which gives the biggest reward first. So if I were you and I only have time for one subject, I'll just focus on Chinese (both reading and speaking). This is what others advised me last year and I see the wisdom of it.

For the rest of the subjects like English & Maths, without a doubt it'll be good to coach them too. But it's not the end of the world if we don't because what we have here (in S'pore) is an English learning environment - our kids will be able to pick them up easily by themselves anyway.

Btw I'm postulating that your family background is similar to mine, that is a non-Chinese speaking environment.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the advice! Yup you guess it all right. Time is scarce, with me working full time. Shall do what you said, focus on Chinese first!

I sweat with even K2 chinese standard so its really tough for me. 😓
Honestly, I did not realised higher chinese is compulsory here until my hubby found out during PV. My nephew who is in Rulang did higher chinese but it was optional, so I kinda assume its the same arrangement.

But I'm not complaining. If God gives us a place in PH, I'm sure my DD will be fine. 🙂

Cheers!

Do most children have private tuition?

Thanks & I welcome all advice! 🙂

Hi mummies,

we stayed in Hillview & OLQP is 1-2km for us. My gal is in K1 now & I have not signed up for any PV…Based on your knowledge, do we stand a chance in getting in at Phase 2C?

Does the school teach about Jesus? We are Christian.

Also, I have a little boy, 20mths old & I dunno if I should split them up…

All advise are welcome!

Thanks! : )

K1 … she is still young.

Child at this age changes very fast.
Certain thing you thought they are not capable of … in 3 months time, they start to show sign that they can do all that stuff.

So relax … just cultivate good reading habits.

As for your place, it is definitely beyond 2 km of PHPPS.
Historically, Phase 2C you will not stand a chance.
PV or transfer after P1 are good options.
Hi Trapwithin,

PV is already OUT for me… now only can bet on transfer after P1…

I know someone, also resides more than 2 km, placed her daughter's name right after phase 2B balloting, first on waitlist. Her daughter got in right before school reopens in Jan. Chances not high, but no harm trying.

Hi IJJ,
Does it helps if I visit the school personally? Will they entertain us?
