Looks like they are doing that for the CL now

Possibly. I read the press release before it was published. Still, language is still more predictable than Science. For years, there is no change in rules or the way of answering. In order to do well for languages, you just need to be an avid reader and write alot.[/quote]E3,
my girl is in P3, i am asking her to read a lot, however, u mentioned writing. In what way of writing will help?

I called the school to find out more...guess what ? The admin staff said they are not informed about this. Really wonder what is going on. Is it possible for principal to inform the students and not the staff picking up the telephone ? :?:

Let's wait for other parents to find out from their children first what exactly Mrs Foo said last Fri.

I wont fault the gen adm staff, once I called n told the staff in Mandarin my P3 boy's class, the staff asked me what's that class in English

Before the Swim safe prog was conducted, I called the admin phone line to speak to Mr Tan (HOD CCA), the staff also had no idea what I was referring to (SwimSafe prog).

I believe some admin staff really do only admin work, without knowing what's happening in the sch.

      Jennifer,

I also have a few bad encounters with the admin staff. Very lousy service.

      Does this apply to PH?

I guess what donkey meant to say was Singapore is based on meritocracy. Every government sector is the same. In schools, teachers set their targets based on their own classes' abilities. These targets will be reviewed periodically with their supervisors. Teachers not only set academic targets for their classes, but on other aspects of their jobscopes too. At the end of the year, targets will be reviewed and teachers will be rewarded based on their performance. Yes, PH's teachers are doing that too. I was only giving a brief process but most teachers do more than just teach. However, not every effort can be assessed so in the past few years, schools were looking for more tangible proofs from teachers' work. Thus, instead of reducing admin for teachers, more unnecessary work were given. Good teachers are rare nowadays so really need to consider carefully when choosing a primary school.

      E3,

Sorry, never read the forum for days..busy with office work. You are absolutely right. We choose maid depend on luck, our children's teachers will also depend on their luck. If they have teachers who teach on passion then that will be their best of luck. hehe..

      Hi Donkey,

Another friend of mine told me her son also followed her, day dreams or else plays with toys the moment she walked out of the room. Or else will keep asking, 'Mummy, what do I do now?'

No choice, have to revise daily right ? If you wait for the exam time-table, 求神 also no use, oral and compo would have started already.

      Dion,
Actually the teachers in Pei Hwa do teach OR ELSE I would have gone nuts. I've heard of some popular schools where teachers do not teach bcos they assume kids go for enrichment lessons.
It's very different now from before, when kids get to play once homework is completed.

I read up son's textbook and then revise using assessment book...after marking it, will explain where he went wrong. I am a SAHM.
      Janet,

Yes . Sure teachers do teach at school. Because their performance will graded accordingly to how well the class performs. Just like other gov sector, all poor performance got to be answerable.

      Hi Donkey,

I felt stressed the moment my son was in P1...couldn't quite explain it.
Finishing homework everyday doesn't mean child understands what was taught. I have to revise with him. Homework basically means getting the work done and handing up to the teacher. He did it bcos he has to.

When my boy was in P1 (in the morn), I couldn't even go to the toilet without him following me. Even taking a call is impossible. In P2, he sat at the table and day dream when I took a bath or phone call. :x :x

I am enjoying this morning peace...and dread the torture of having kids in different sessions again...this is one reason why I want my younger one to be in morning session next year (P1).
      Janet,

yes , yes, my girl also daydream. The moment i was away from her, she can just played with her stationery and day dream.. is it most of the little children are like that??
yesterday , i read story to my K1 girl and follow by watching the Okto documentary about SHARK with my P2 girl. so relax, no stress, no anger!! when comes to no revision, i LOVE it...

      Janet,

talking about stress, i also stress out. sometimes i think with children is soooo stress.
do we really need to coach the children homework daily?? actually , i will like to watch educational tv programme ,read story books and play games..with my P2 and K1 girls daily instead of sit beside her and coach her homework and revision.. can i just let her revise herself?

      tweet:

      Hi Janet

Ur boy is P4, right? from P4 onwards, there is no longer any 造句 for Paper 1.
This is what my son has been thru.

Wonder what about ur son's chinese oral format. My son told me that for picture conversation, he is supposed to describe and point out and elaborate on those ppl that did something wrong (litter, spitting etc). However, last yr PSLE oral was only to say for eg: that man is throwing litter. for more elaboration, that will be during the conversation with the teahcer, eg: she asked which person in the pic gives u the most impression. then he can say: that man is inconsiderate, dirty the place, should throw in the dustbin etc...

So how ah?? either i call the teacher or ask my friend's son from another class. really confused and worried. 🙏

Hi Tweet, my P2 dd's picture conversation was already describing and elaborating the \"wrong\" behaviour, teacher told them to use their own opinions, not just say what they see, not only the \"wrong\" behaviour but EVERY behaviour. Teacher said should add on, \"我想...\" after they state what the people are doing. Her P1 teacher last year encouraged them to do that too. They do not have a separate conversation with the teacher (I believe that's for upper primary). In fact, if there's prompting by the teacher on the pic conv, it means you are not elaborating enough on the picture so that's not really good news.

For pic conversation, I told her to first identify the place, then describe everything about the setting as best as she can in detail. After that, speak in a circular motion everything she see from top-left hand round to centre. Give as much personal opinions as possible. Summarise (in her case, memorise) with concluding sentences using 注意安全, 遵守规矩, 干净卫生, etc., then give a \"happy\" or \"desirable\" result. Just sharing. 😉

      E3

yes yes, you are absolutely right about the picture conversation. My girl teacher also told me that. However, i think my girl never do well as she told me that she has asked the teacher how to say the action in the picture...very sad..

Yes. Paper 1 consists of 看图写话 (10marks) and 造句 (10 marks). Did you receive a circular from school regarding all the test components for Chinese SA1? All the test components are given in that circular.

My dd told me that Oral for them will be conducted next week. I called up school and confirmed that English Oral will be conducted from 19th - 22nd. Based on the office, the circular is not out yet cos the chinese department apparently has not confirmed on the oral dates. However, my dd's Chinese teacher told the class that she'll conduct oral after their 听写默写 next Tuesday.
      E3.
Thank you for the reply. I have checked yesterday evening on the circular . but i am not sure the 看图写话 has any helping words? how many words she needs to write?
I have let her practise the 造句. she has difficulties in writing out all the picture words. I really afraid that she will fail on the 看图写话. Really dont understand why needed to test a P2 students on the chinese compo! really difficult for the small students!!
